About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Improving Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Middle East - UNFPA 2019-2021

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is contributing to meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls in sexual and reproductive health, and preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. The project operates in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency obstetric care, and sexual and reproductive health services; (2) ensuring protection from and response to gender-based violence; and (3) providing health services, supplies, commodities and medication, dignity kits, and reproductive health kits to crisis-affected people.

Promoting Women’s Inclusion in Peace and Stabilization in Yemen

This project seeks to engage women in local and national peace processes through increasing the capacity of women and men mediators; building bridges between grassroots women peacebuilders and established women’s groups that are already engaged in national Track I and II of the peace processes; and transforming norms around gender roles. Project activities include: (1) providing training to mediators; (2) organizing inclusive community dialogues; (3) establishing conflict resolution committees; (4) establishing a mentorship program for young women; and (5) conducting a communications campaign.

Mobilizing the Media to fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

This project aims to combat the impact of COVID-19 on human rights, particularly those of women and girls. Project activities include: (1) providing training to journalists to report on the status of human rights and women’s rights as affected by COVID -19 (for example, access to health-care/social services, etc); (2) providing training to journalists to identify mis/disinformation on COVID-19, to debunk dangerous myths in social media; (3) providing training to journalists to only report scientifically valid information to the public; (4) educating targeted communities on how to both identify mis/disinformation in the media and to source sourcing credible information regarding COVID-19; and (5) and providing training to communities to recognize when their human rights are not being observed due to COVID-19.
This project is being implemented in Gambia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Yemen.

This project aims to improve equitable participation and representation of women and marginalized groups in the democratic space in Nepal and the Philippines. Project activities include: (1) establishing government-to-citizen platforms technical hubs; (2) creating a peer support program for women and youths; (3) supporting data and evidence-based action-researches; (4) organizing solidarity tours; (5) establishing the Future Leaders' Empowerment program; (6) establishing micro-grant program for evidence-based advocacy campaigns; (7) establishing capacity building programs for women candidates and locally elected women office-bearers. The Project targets women and marginalized groups in selected geographical sites based on the project’s implementing partners' extensive, long-term experience working with these communities.

Project activities include: (1) surveying potential contaminated areas and conducting mine clearance operations; (2) delivering explosive ordnance risk education to impacted populations; (3) providing environmental awareness and agricultural development training to enhance the economic autonomy of women who both head households and own agricultural land; and (4) organizing and hosting an exhibition in Siem Reap on the margins of the 5th Review Conference of the Ottawa Treaty to promote the universalization of the Ottawa Treaty.
