Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The geology and geochemistry of stratabound high grade V, Ni, Mo, Cu, and PGE mineralization, in Yukon, NWT, and BC
GC-130024S
This project will focus on understanding the formation of eight critical metal rich highly metalliferous shales in Yukon, British Columbia, and Northwest Territories by investigating how these similar deposits with different metal enrichments formed at or near the same time and producing a regional formation model for highly metalliferous shales that can be used to guide future research for these critical element rich deposits.

Carbonatite magmatism and rare-earth potential of the Superior Boundary Zone, Manitoba
GC-130023S
The primary objectives of this project are (1) to determine the extent and geodynamic controls of recently discovered carbonatitic magmatism in the Superior Boundary Zone (Manitoba), (2) establish the mechanisms of rare-earth element (REE) transport and concentration in plate-collision zones, and (3) to provide a basis for refining REE exploration methods.

Experimental evaluation of the thermodynamic properties of cobalt minerals and aqueous species, for modelling hydrothermal Co ore formation
GC-130030S
The objective of this project is to determine the thermodynamic properties of the most important hydrothermal ore minerals of cobalt (carrollite (CuCo2S4), linnaeite (Co3S4), skutterudite (CoAs3), safflorite (CoAs2), and cobaltite (CoAsS)) to support enhanced understanding of the primary mineralization of hydrothermal cobalt deposits in Canada.
