August 2021 – Haiti, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 occurred at 13 km southeast of Petit Trou de Nippes on August 14. The earthquake caused severe damage to infrastructure, including hospitals, along the coast of Haiti’s southern peninsula, particularly in Jeremie, Jacmel, and Les Cayes. Over 130,000 houses have been destroyed or damaged, and more than 12,268 people were injured. In total, over 2,200 people have died as a result of the earthquake.

With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies are working to save lives and help reduce the suffering of people affected by the earthquake. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency shelter and household items; (2) providing emergency medical care, including first aid services and psychosocial support; and (3) providing hygiene kits, cleaning kits, and water filters to affected people.

Progressing together: Ngäbe Indigenous women organized against gender-based violence and promoting economic independence via training sessions on gender-based violence and equality, and cacao production and commercialization.

The key objective of the ALLESP is to improve the awareness of adult learning, literacy and essential skills among partners, stakeholders and employers and the application and integration of literacy and essential skills into their programs and activities.

The objectives of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy Program (YESSP) are to help all youth navigate through the labour market and to successfully transition into sustained employment. These objectives are attained by supporting the needs of all youth, especially youth facing barriers to develop skills, knowledge and networks through education, skills development and meaningful work experiences.

The objectives of the Program are to; support the development and utilization of effective approaches to address social issues and challenges;
develop, exchange and apply knowledge, tools and resources that address social needs of individuals, families and communities; foster partnerships and networks to address existing and emerging social issues; recognize and support the ability of not-for-profit organizations to identify and address social development priorities; and, recognize and promote community engagement initiatives (e.g. volunteerism, corporate social responsibility, innovation, partnerships, coalitions) that mobilize community assets and develop capacities and resources for action.
