The government of Quebec has entered into an Agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to share in the costs of youth justice services and programs within their jurisdiction. The priority of the Agreement is to support and promote programs and services that are consistent with the following objectives: - To encourage accountability measures for unlawful behaviour that are proportionate and timely; - To encourage effective rehabilitation and reintegration of young persons into their communities; - To target the formal court process to the most serious offences; and, - To target detention and custody to the most serious offences.

The priority of the Agreement is to support and promote programs and services that are consistent with the following objectives: - To encourage accountability measures for unlawful behaviour that are proportionate and timely; - To encourage effective rehabilitation and reintegration of young persons into their communities; - To target the formal court process to the most serious offences; and, - To target detention and custody to the most serious offences.

This project will provide funding to Nova Scotia, over five years, to prepare Impact of Race and Culture Assessments (IRCAs) for qualified legal aid clients in the province of Nova Scotia.

The province of Prince Edward Island has entered into an Agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to share in the costs of youth justice services and programs within their jurisdiction. The priority of the Agreement is to support and promote programs and services that are consistent with the following objectives: - To encourage accountability measures for unlawful behaviour that are proportionate and timely; - To encourage effective rehabilitation and reintegration of young persons into their communities; - To target the formal court process to the most serious offences; and, - To target detention and custody to the most serious offences.

The Province of Nova Scotia will undertake several activities over five fiscal years to advance victim services and access to justice for victims, while giving victims a more effective voice in the criminal justice system in Nova Scotia. Planned activities include: support services of the Mi'kmaw Legal Support Network; an Aboriginal Victim Case Coordinator; implementation of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights through a designated Restitution Coordinator; and, independent legal advice for victims of sexual assault.

The New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety proposes to undertake several activities over five fiscal years to advance victim services and access to justice for victims and witnesses, while giving victims a more effective voice in the criminal justice system in New Brunswick. Activities will include enhancing services available to victims of intimate partner violence (IPV), an Aboriginal domestic violence outreach program, support groups for vulnerable victims and families, training for victim service coordinators and other initiatives to support the implementation of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.

Over the next five fiscal years, the project will support direct services to victims of crime in three regions of Prince Edward Island, contributing to increasing the province's capacity to implement victim-related legislation; increasing access and delivery of victim services; increasing victims participation in the criminal justice system; and, increasing awareness and understanding among criminal justice personnel, service providers and victims on issues, legislation and available services to victims.

Planned activities include: providing additional service to high need rural Yukon community(ies); Continuing to implement Yukon's Child Advocacy Centre Initiative with a multi-disciplinary team; supporting the continuation of the Yukon Victims of Crime Emergency Fund, which provides emergency assistance and support for immediate practical needs of victims of crime; providing general and case specific legal information and legal advice to victims of crime about the Criminal Justice system; enhancing justice services for victims of crime through partnership between victim service providers and legal professionals; and supporting the alignment of Yukon services with the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights and the Yukon Victims of Crime Act through outreach, training, the promotion of victims rights and the enhancement of testimonial aids.
