The project aims to improve the resilience of women, men, girls and boys to climate change-related food insecurity, especially addressing its gendered impacts. It seeks to: (i) increase the practice of gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture, thus increasing peoples’ access to diverse foods; and (ii) increase women’s participation in decision-making at the local level. The project supports vulnerable women-headed households who are reliant on subsistence farming.

Project activities include: (1) promoting gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture technologies, the use of drought-resistant varieties of beans and maize, community seed banks, and community garden planting to help increase women’s incomes; (2) providing training on entrepreneurship and financial management, market links, gender equality, women’s rights and leadership to women’s groups; and (3) conducting gender sensitization sessions for women and men leaders, youth, and male family members to increase community support for women to participate in decision-making.

The project aims to directly impact 3,345 direct beneficiaries (of which 1,750 women and girls) and 6,500 indirect beneficiaries for a total of nearly 10,000 people reached.

The project is implemented by Casa-Pueblito with partners including Gloria Quintanilla Women’s Cooperative, UCA Tierra y Agua, Community of Jiñocua, and Hogar Luceros del Amanecer.

Country-level interventions will be implemented through a global program that will allow for a greater overall coherence and visibility of sectoral results achieved.

UNICEF works in developing countries through its development and humanitarian assistance programming to fulfill its mandate, including promoting the equal rights of girls’ and women’s, equal rights and support their full participation in the political, social, and economic development of their communities.

February 2021 - The rapid spread of COVID-19 pandemic has overwhelmed healthcare systems, disrupted economies and altered livelihoods in many parts of the world. People living in crisis-affected settings, often in over-crowded areas, are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides medical humanitarian operations to vulnerable populations at risk of contracting and spreading the virus in countries affected by war, armed conflict and other situations of violence.

With GAC’s support, MSF aims to minimize the consequences of the pandemic on affected populations through activities that include: (1) providing direct patient care to those affected by COVID-19; (2) increasing access to primary and secondary medical care in places where gaps exist in local health systems as a result of COVID-19; and (3) increasing awareness in affected communities about the virus and prevention measures.

With GAC’s support, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) provides comprehensive protection programming for children at heightened risk of trafficking and abuse, focusing on prevention and response through a community-based approach.

P010168001: January 2021 – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world’s refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally displaced persons, including in response to the secondary impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The UNHCR searches for lasting solutions to their situations.

With the support of GAC and other donors, this project provides assistance and protection to refugees, internally displaced persons and other persons of concern in five regions and twenty-three specific countries across the world.

Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation and health services, including in reproductive health; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) providing protection, including against sexual and gender-based violence, child protection and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees, and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern.

The International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect people’s lives and dignity affected by conflict and other violent situations. The ICRC assists and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

With GAC’s support and other donors, the ICRC’s humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other violent situations, and promote respect for international humanitarian law. This project supports the ICRC’s activities in key humanitarian contexts.

The funding also supports a special initiative to strengthen ICRC's response to sexual violence to improve service delivery, prevent sexual violence, and improve its staff's capacity to respond. This grant supports a pilot initiative launched by the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to strengthen the capacity of Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies, especially those in contexts with heightened humanitarian needs risks.

Project activities include: (1) providing medical care, access to water and sanitation facilities, food assistance and livelihoods support; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise to strengthen their capacity in areas such as promoting international humanitarian law, restoring family links, and delivering relief in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of detainees, and civilians not taking part in hostilities.

The GPE also fosters mutual accountability, shares knowledge about best practices and encourages transparency at all levels.

Some program activities include: (1) providing country-level funding to increase children’s access to education; (2) supporting education sector plans that focus on increasing the quality of teaching and the number of qualified teachers; (3) providing appropriate reading materials to children; and (4) assessing the volume of financing to education at the global and country levels.

This project represents an additional loan of $190 million to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for climate-smart agriculture in developing countries. This contribution supports IFAD’s full environmental and climate mainstreaming agenda whose overarching goal is to strengthen the environmental sustainability and climate resilience of rural people to overcome poverty and achieve food security. The purposes of this loan are: (1) to support IFAD’s provision of loans to eligible Member States in line with IFAD’s commitment to ensure that its Programme of Loans and Grants is climate-focused; and (2) to support gender mainstreaming and gender-transformative projects.
Project activities include: (1) expanding IFAD’s support to smallholder farmers, particularly women; and (2) promoting farming practices adapted to climate change and adoption of technologies and practices which help reduce the carbon footprint from agricultural systems. This project enables poor populations to adapt to the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
