Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Molecule-based quantum light-matter interfaces and qubits
1041015
The global effort to develop scalable quantum networks requires platforms that combine long coherence times with strong and controllable coupling to photonic circuits—capabilities that existing atomic and solid-state systems can only partially provide. While warm/cold atomic gases and single-atom traps offer excellent coherence, they are difficult to integrate into compact photonic systems, and solid-state colour centres face challenges such as phonon sidebands, spectral diffusion, or the need for sub-Kelvin temperatures. Molecular systems, and lanthanide complexes in particular, offer a transformative opportunity: their local chemical environment can be precisely engineered to minimize decoherence, suppress non-radiative decay, and support both ensemble-based quantum memories and single?emitter qubits. Early demonstrations of long optical and spin coherence in lanthanide complexes highlight the strong potential of this emerging platform for quantum networking, sensing, and communication.

Optimizing Quantum Localization Algorithms via Error Characterization and Correction
1041113
The project targets the analysis and development of novel quantum algorithms for scalable quantum computing under realistic hardware errors. The first theme seeks the development of detailed models of physical errors, tracking how they propagate through different architectures and quantum error correction codes, to characterize the residual logical level errors. These realistic error models will be used to understand the limits and opportunities for quantum algorithms on both near-term uncorrected devices and future error-corrected quantum processors. The second theme seeks to focus on the simulation of quantum localization, an important phenomenon that underpins questions about metal-insulator transitions and the thermalization of disordered interacting systems, which offers promise of intrinsic robustness to certain classes of errors. The project will leverage these two themes to optimize the co-design of simulation algorithms under expected physical and logical error models, to identify the most promising routes for algorithms simulating localization.
