Unlike typical adaptive optics for astronomy, optical satellite-to-ground communications experience a wide variety of turbulence conditions and can greatly benefit from capturing a coherent optical signal for improved optical channel data throughput, lowered reduce bit-error rates, and reduced emitter laser power requirements.

In collaboration with National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) worldwide, including NRC, the BIPM fulfills its mandate of providing the basis for a single, coherent system of measurements throughout the world, traceable to the International System of Units (SI).

OCHA's primary mandate is to coordinate international humanitarian responses in partnership with national and international actors to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate by: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

UN Women’s triple mandate, along with its global network and deep policy and programming expertise, continues to endow the Entity with a unique capacity to: (i) support Member States to strengthen global norms and standards for gender equality and women’s empowerment, and mainstream gender perspectives in other thematic areas; (ii) promote coordination and coherence across the UN system to enhance accountability and results for gender equality and women’s empowerment; and (iii) undertake operational activities to support Member States, upon their request, in translating global norms and standards into legislation, policies and strategies at the regional and country levels.

The conference will bring together an international group of leading thinkers and practitioners from business, finance, national security, law enforcement, government and academia to discuss ways and policies to strengthen digital security for all of society.

Project activities include: (1) working in partnership with communities and local organizations to address constraints related to using financial products and services by women and youth to increase productive investment in businesses owned by this population; (2) working closely with community-based financial institutions to eliminate constraints on accessing financial products and services; and (3) providing state actors with technical support to make gender equality strategies more coherent and relevant when developing, implementing and evaluating financial inclusion programs and policies.

Project activities include: (1) working in partnership with communities and local organizations to address constraints related to using financial products and services by women and youth to increase productive investment in businesses owned by this population; (2) working closely with community-based financial institutions to eliminate constraints on accessing financial products and services; and (3) providing state actors with technical support to make gender equality strategies more coherent and relevant when developing, implementing and evaluating financial inclusion programs and policies.

Projects activities include: (1) Generate and share the data analysis and evidence describing and explaining the key trends in need and financing in crisis contexts; (2) Engage in shaping the reform of humanitarian financing through consolidated recommendations; (3) Inform and shape efforts to deliver coherent, coordinated and accountable programming and financing to address risk, vulnerability and crisis through data analysis; and (4) Improve understanding of, access to, and the availability and use of open data on humanitarian needs and crisis financing through technical guidance and awareness-raising activities such as engaging in key fora.

Project activities include: (1) developing JIAF tools and guidance documents for use in humanitarian field operations; (2) providing a transparent, rigorous, coherent and replicable process for needs analysis for the Humanitarian Programme Cycle; (3) providing oversight and support to humanitarian country teams to implement the JIAF; and (4) maintaining the continued buy-in of the JIAF partners and ensuring the well-functioning governance of the JIAF process.
