The Go-To-Market Strategy for the X-Quill project encompasses the development and execution of a go-to-market strategy the X-Quill injection and sampling quill.

This project includes designing, building, testing and commissioning of multiple, flexible assembly and welding lines for sub components used in Electric and Hybrid vehicles. Each line will be designed and built where the key function required is the automatic joining (spot welding, GMAW, fastening etc.) of automotive structural components to be used in Electric Vehicle and Hybrid vehicle production. Each project involves multiple products being produced on a single platform.
BEV / PEV are relatively new. Flexibility for both production volumes and technical changes are required to ensure the Tier 1 supplier can quickly adapt to new OEM requirements. Scale-able platforms utilizing robotics & modular controls will be key deliverables.

Battery Cells need to be tested and validated before being installed into a battery pack. Electrical End of Line Testing includes, OCV, IV, DCIR, ACIR, and EIS tests. While the testing is well studied in laboratory settings, there is high technical uncertainty on it's application to high volume automotive production systems. The intent of this project is to establish the baseline parameters for cycle time, contact pressure, electrical noise, and accuracy required to meet specifications. From that information, the high volume production system can be designed and manufactured.

Traditional air pressure based leak test methods are not capable of reliably measuring the leak rates of battery structures to the leak rates required. Using a tracer gas based system instead of air pressure is a method that removes temperature a barometric pressure effects. While Hard Vac Helium Tracer Gas leak testing is a well studied leak test technology, it’s application to battery structures is new, and its application in a high volume automotive production system is new and novel. Development of critical aspects, such as the sealing strategy, motion components, and sensing, while being able to maintain a high vacuum chamber system is a major challenge.

Development and Validation of a modular high speed automation station for end of line electrical testing of prismatic battery cells. Allowing the creation of a single test stand design to accommodate different quantities, orientations and sizes of different prismatic battery cells. One design can be re-used to reduce time to market, decrease cost, and increase value for end users.
