The aim of this project is to support innovative R&D projects that will directly benefit aquaculture SMEs in Nova Scotia. The AANS will assist SMEs with specific projects tailored to the needs of their organization. All projects will provide a framework that will incorporate lessons learned for other SMEs in the industry.

A major challenge facing the agricultural industry, and in particular greenhouse and indoor growers, is the impact pathogens have on crop yield, both quantity and quality. Powdery mildew poses a significant threat to a number of agricultural crops.

Following the onset of COVID-19, the use of UVC as a disinfectant has taken off. A number of lighting companies have emerged to provide the market with UVC based solutions for room and instrument disinfection. The application of UVC with plants is a new approach to plant protection, only recently made possible with the discovery of night time UVC application. Our project will identify:
• The optimal UVC dosage.
• The optimal apparatus to support the application of the UVC for each crop.

Project to include website development to increase credibility of brand, e-commerce sales, SEO improvements along with video + 3 D modelling, photography, educational blog posts (awareness of prebiotics, fibre gap, establishing Crazy D’s as a leader in this space). The company will also be adding new products/flavours including soda syrups to reduce their carbon footprint even further. The syrups will be for customers with soda streamers and will require far less packaging (one syrup bottle to equal a 12 pack of cans).
