Grants and Contributions

This project will provide information on recent changes in the Divorce Act by: 1) producing a webinar and a virtual town hall on the Divorce Act updates, 2) creating collateral resources derived from the webinar and town hall, 3) providing British Columbians with e-mail answers to their divorce related questions through the organization's question and answer service, and 4) producing "skills-related/how to" resources to help people develop the skills and mindset to deal with their divorce-related legal problems on their own and/or seek help if necessary.

The project will serve the needs of diverse and underserved families by delivering 30-60 minute workshops to parents who are experiencing separation and divorce and engaged in the family justice system. It will give them the opportunity to build parenting skills, practice those skills in real-time supervised visits and receive immediate strengths-based feedback from trained visitation facilitators.

Over the next five fiscal years, Saskatchewan will undertake various activities to enhance services available to victims of crime in Saskatchewan, including: providing liaisons in Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon to support families of missing persons; the Victim Services Responders program operating out of Saskatchewan's two Child Advocacy Centers to minimize trauma to child victims and their families; supports for families of missing persons; victims services training; enhancing the Independent Legal Advice Listen Project in partnership with the Public Legal Education Association by making the service available to domestic violence victims in addition to sexual assault victims; and, undertaking various activities to support the implementation of the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.

The non-profit professional organization maintains professional standards, and promotes the study and enhances the stature of forensic science. It has established two committees: the Alcohol Test Committee which acts as an advisory body to the Department of Justice on matters related to alcohol and the law by evaluating, testing and reporting to the Minister on the scientific acceptability of breath analysis equipment used to determine the blood alcohol content of a person suspected of impaired driving; and the Drugs and Driving Committee which conducts and monitors research in a number of areas including the driving of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs. Advice from this Committee assists in responding to outstanding policy issues related to drugs and driving

The objective of paying the annual assessed contribution is to enable Canada to meet its financial obligations to the organization as well as fulfilling Canada's international policy objectives by participating in the work of the organization.

Provide financial assistance to an individual Canadian victim of a specified serious violent crime in a foreign jurisdiction for emergency situations of undue hardship where no other source of financial assistance is available (specified categories of crimes are homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault or assault with serious personal violence, or threat of serious violence, including against a child) or to an individual support person to accompany, attend with or support a Canadian victimized in a foreign jurisdiction. A total of 14 individuals received financial assistance in this regard.
