About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Project activities include: (1) conducting studies on High Conservation Value Forest (HCVF) biodiversity, ethnic minority women’s traditional knowledge and nature based solutions; (2) providing gender-sensitive technical assistance to forest protection committees and community-based conservation groups; (3) implementing women-led reforestation and ecological restoration campaigns; (4) providing a training program on sustainable business management for ethnic minority women entrepreneurs; (5) establishing a transformative leadership school tailored to environmental issues for diverse ethnic minority women’s groups; and (6) implementing awareness raising and training on gender equality and positive masculinity to increase women’s participation in biodiversity decision-making process.

Certified Inclusive Tech: Fostering 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion in tech products and workplaces

Through this 29-month project, QueerTech will address the needs and barriers to equality for 2SLGBTQI+ communities in the tech ecosystem. QueerTech will achieve this by building awareness around 2SLGBTQI+ realities in the tech space, fostering inclusive workplaces in the tech industry, and promoting more inclusions in the use of AI products and services. For this, QueerTech will develop a comprehensive toolkit and a series of workshops designed for key industry professionals who want to create a more inclusive Canadian tech ecosystem. QueerTech will support 600 HR professionals at small, medium, and large tech companies in assessing and addressing gaps in representation among their workforce and adopting more inclusive management practices. QueerTech will also build the awareness of 400 AI product managers and developers around algorithmic biases and help them identify ways to circumvent them and build AI tools that truly include and represent 2SLGBTQI+ realities. This project will improve the workplace experience and career development of over 2,500 2SLGBTQI+ professionals and significantly limit the exposure to harmful stereotypes or inaccurate information for millions of Canadian AI users.

The project will include the development of three core strategies; a fund diversification and fundraising strategy, a strategic plan, and an advocacy strategy, along with a gender-based analyses of their existing programs and communications plan, which will improve the ability of the organization to reach their goals, be sustainable, and make change.
