This project builds on Canada’s funding to the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) during COVID-19. The initial project aims at accelerate the roll-out of safe, affordable, and effective COVID-19 diagnostics in Low- and Lower-Middle Income Countries. This project supports FIND in using testing technologies developed during COVID-19 to expand the range of diseases detected with a single test. This includes other respiratory diseases, sexually transmitted infections, and Human papillomavirus (HPV)-based screening for cervical cancer. The project aims to increase testing for the most marginalized, including women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Project activities include: (1) supporting the development of more straightforward sample collection methods, including self-sampling; and (2) conducting in-country customer preference surveys and barrier-to-access surveys to guide the final development and introduction of tests.

This project aims to improve the economic well-being of poor rural women, particularly ethnic minorities in Vietnam by increasing women’s participation in paid economic activities. The project also aims to challenge discriminatory gender norms by addressing the root causes of the unequal distribution of care work placed on women in Vietnam. At the national level, this project aims to influence the provision of public services, infrastructure, childcare and social protection policies.

The project aims to contribute to increased circumpolar and Indigenous knowledge sharing in the North, by Northern Canadians by increasing opportunities for Northern Canadians, including Indigenous peoples, to participate in UArctic north2north Mobility Program; strengthening relationships between UArctic member institutions and Canadian territorial post-secondary institutions; increasing opportunities for a Northern Canadian post-secondary Indigenous leader to contribute to UArctic initiatives; and strengthening capacity to align Indigenous Knowledge across the circumpolar north. To do so, the project implements the north2north Mobility Program, hosts a Vice President Indigenous position held by a senior Indigenous leader from Northern Canada, and creates tools to increase the visibility and accessibility of Indigenous content and knowledge within the UArctic network.

In cannabis, specialized structures on flowers produce unique compounds with medicinal importance. This project will investigate the physical and chemical landscape of these surface structures through the application of 3D imaging and synchrotron light technologies, revealing how the broad range of medicinal compounds are sequestered on cannabis flowers.

A large majority of patients undergoing partial or complete upper or lower limb loss through amputation experience debilitating
phantom limb pain. Phantom limb pain immediately following amputation is a risk factor for chronicity. Current effective treatment
approaches are limited. Evidence suggests that simulations of the missing limb may be helpful in reducing pain sensations. Virtual
reality represents an innovative way to simulate the missing limb. The NRC will develop innovative technology that simulates the
missing limb. We will identify patient partners who experience phantom limb pain who will work alongside the NRC in the development
of the technology. We will perform focus groups for patient feedback to inform further development of technology. Upon completion of
the technology, we will conduct a feasibility study among those undergoing lower limb amputation to assess the utility and acceptability
of the technology in the immediate post-surgery period during hospitalization. At discharge, patients will undergo a semi-structured
interview and will be qualitatively analyzed.
