Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

This 36-month project will build capacity of the Childcare Resource and Research Unit (CRRU) to advance childcare priorities, specifically focusing on unpaid care work, in order to help secure a child care system for all, which is a key issue exacerbated by COVID-19, as part of an inclusive post-pandemic recovery and economy. This project will engage a broad range of Canadians in a number of ways to gather evidence about child care’s centrality to women’s economic security and prosperity, through knowledge production and widespread knowledge transfer related to new and emerging developments in child care. The project will enhance CRRU's primary role in advancing women's equality through childcare by engaging partners, producing and disseminating analytical/empirical evidence to address new/emerging developments; and developing a roadmap to undertake collective action with women's movement partners.

Building Capacity and Sustaining Connections to Prevent, Identify and Tackle Violence Against Women in the COVID-19 Context

Agreement Number:

NA20424

Duration: from Feb 25, 2021 to Feb 24, 2024
Description:

This 36-month project will build the organizational capacity of Mothers Matter Centre (MMC) and its partners in order to better serve isolated women susceptible to violence, effectively during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The project aims to enhance the skill level of organizational staff so that they can support vulnerable refugee, non-status, immigrant and Indigenous women in remaining connected to essential services and supports to deal with the disproportionate impacts of the pandemic. This will be achieved through the development of an innovative, culturally appropriate, and multi-lingual violence prevention training program that will be delivered to approximately 120 staff across the country with the goal of preventing, identifying and tackling abuse. As a result, MMC and its partners will be able to provide more holistic services and leadership skills to women employed through the program and will build capacity through a train the trainer approach.
