About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Rohingya Crisis - Improving Health and Protection for Vulnerable People - HI 2020

March 2020 – Following the outbreak of violence in Northern Rakhine State in August 2017, more than 700,000 Rohingya people crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh over a period of several months. Currently, there are approximately 855,000 Rohingya refugees living in 34 highly congested settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx has resulted in significant humanitarian needs.
With GAC’s support, Humanity & Inclusion (HI) is helping to respond to the immediate needs of refugees in Cox’s Bazar, focusing particularly on vulnerable households and persons with disabilities. Project activities include: (1) providing protection assistance through case management for individuals with specific needs; (2) extending psychosocial support for those affected by trauma; and (3) providing training to community health workers and community leaders on key sexual and reproductive health issues within the community.

With GAC’s support, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is improving the health and safety of Rohingya women and girls through the provision of integrated sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence prevention and response. Project activities include: (1) delivering emergency obstetric, antenatal, delivery and postpartum services; (2) providing comprehensive abortion, family planning and sexually transmitted infection care; (3) offering quality support for survivors of gender-based violence; and (4) developing effective referral pathways for clinical and mental health care, psychosocial support and other health services.

AI FOR SIMULATION OF BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS - METABOLIC MODELLING OF QUANTITATIVE LIPIDOMICS DATA TO INFER ENZYMATIC DISRUPTIONS IN THE LIPIDOME

AI systems that can describe and predict behavior of biological networks of cells, tissues and organisms will allow more accurate, faster and less expensive innovations in life sciences while at the same time ensuring predictable outcomes. In particular, the full potential for safe and efficient utilization of gene editing and live cell therapies requires an ability for controlled design of these modalities with simulations that allow testing and optimization under different conditions in both production and utilization. This project will combine machine learning and mechanistic modeling for the development of simulation of biological systems and link these simulations with learning algorithms for testing and optimizing different designs. The focus of this 2 year project, will be on the development of methods for the simulation and design of desired characteristics of exosomes, as carriers of gene therapies, and development of methodologies for building simulations for HEK293, as major cells for bioreactor production and iPSC cells as major cells in stem and cell therapy development.
This project will focus on the metabolic modelling of quantitative lipidomics data to infer enzymatic disruptions in the lipidome, specifically those lipids metabolized and released as exosomes from IPSC-derived neurons from PD patients and SMA-PME patients.
