Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Women and Girls Engage on Sustainable Peace in Central Africa
7426157 P009942001
This project seeks to make an effective contribution to sustainable peace by preventing and resolving conflicts that affect girls and women, mainly in Cameroon, but also on a smaller scale in the Central African Republic. The purpose of this project is to build the capacities of girls and women human rights advocates in their roles as effective leaders and actors in peace and security matters. These new capacities will ensure their effective participation in peacebuilding, national reconciliation and the search for solutions to ensure their protection.
Project activities include: (1) providing training on individual protection; (2) producing a manual on protecting girls and women; (3) arranging inter-community peace dialogues; (4) building capacity to engage communities in implementing peace and reconciliation mechanisms; and (5) raising state actors’ awareness of the peace and reconciliation process and setting up peace clubs.

Promoting Civic Voices and Democracy in a time of Misinformation
7426408 P009780001
This project will build capacity and knowledge among technology companies and systems-level actors to ensure technological innovation serves and protects users and helps mitigate the spread of mis- and disinformation. Policy-makers and government officials, international justice mechanisms, public defenders and judges will be engaged to develop and implement democratic, gender-sensitive and inclusive policy and programming. Focus will also be on enabling vulnerable communities to safely, ethically and effectively utilize video technology to create truthful narratives, participate in society and to inform public dialogue and decision-making on issues that affect them in their communities. This work will specifically aim to protect and amplify the voices of women and girls, who regularly and disproportionately suffer violations of their human rights, are targeted for participating in civic or political spaces, and for whom video and technology offer vast potential to transform their lives.
