Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Training Validation and Tracking for Canada’s Trucking Sector

Agreement Number:

960092

Duration: from Nov 9, 2020 to Mar 31, 2021
Description:

Prior to the onset of COVID-19, the Canadian trucking industry was facing a labour shortage of 20,000 jobs, which is forecasted to increase to over 50,000 by 2024. COVID-19 has introduced new challenges and impacted the ability of drivers to access work sites, find work, or even get a meal or shower. A push to develop domestic manufacturing capacity, dynamic supply chains and a surge in online shopping (e-commerce) and home delivery are placing increased pressure on the industry and the highly stressed Canadian commercial driver training sector. Bluedrop is seeking to customize and test its SkillsPass platform to help the trucking industry address the new challenges that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Metamaterial waveguides for on-chip spectral control

Agreement Number:

960280

Duration: from Nov 9, 2020 to Oct 31, 2023
Description:

However, the high-index contrast of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform imposes strict limitations
on the corrugation depths needed for narrowband filters that cannot be achieved even with state-of-the-art lithographic patterning available in silicon photonics foundries. The Project will utilize subwavelength grating (SWG) metamaterials, an
enabling technology for optimizing and customizing the performance of integrated optical devices, to achieve spectrally engineered multi-line integrated filters based on Bragg gratings in silicon and silicon nitride metamaterial waveguides, with
potentially unprecedented performance, for telecom applications.
