This 37-month project with the Association for New Canadians will develop and implement promising intervention practises to advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking in Newfoundland and Labrador.

These goals will be achieved by developing and implementing the Support, Empower, Access (SEA) program, which will support, empower and enhance access to programs and services through shared expertise and experience regarding sex and labour trafficking. The project will also develop and recommend best practices for supporting immigrants and migrants who have survived or are at risk of trafficking in their home country, during migration, or while living in Newfoundland and Labrador. The project will also develop a peer leadership model that will incorporate recommendations from health professionals, government and non-profit organizations, and those with lived experience.

At the end of the project, the organization will have the capacity to provide and offer trauma-informed services to victims and survivors. Immigrant and migrant survivors of human trafficking that occurred pre-migration will have the necessary support post-migration to ensure their successful settlement and prevent sexual and labour trafficking for those at risk post-migration.

This 49-month project with Bonnyville Canadian Native Friendship Centre will develop and implement a comprehensive survivor-informed prevention and trauma-mitigation program to advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking within the Northern Alberta region.

This will be achieved by the development and delivery of a suite of wrap-around client services that will integrate Indigenous culture approaches and initiatives that strengthen community, family, and spiritual connections. Project activities will include: essential skills, employment, self-advocacy, and sexual exploitation awareness training workshops; cultural connectivity programs, events, and camps; crisis support and enhanced support referrals; and volunteerism opportunities. A Human Trafficking Advisory Board and focus groups will be formed to design and oversee project activities.

At the end of the project, the organization will have developed, implemented, and tested a survivor-informed and culturally relevant program framework that will result in promising and sustainable prevention and intervention practices to empower at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking.

The project will include an external evaluation that will looks at the success and scalability of the promising practices.

The supplemental funding will be used to scale up the project and expand its reach. This will include workshops for survivors of human trafficking on financial literacy and conflict resolution with an Indigenous cultural focus, Indigenous art therapy, a cultural camp offering a holistic approach to healing and recovery, and cultural healing circles incorporating traditional Indigenous healing practices.

This 49-month project with Supporting Women's Alternative Network (SWAN Vancouver) Society will develop and implement prevention, response services, and promising intervention practices to advance knowledge and enhance empowerment supports for im/migrant sex workers who experience systemic vulnerability to human trafficking.

This will be achieved by providing trafficking prevention and response services, filling the gap in province-wide services, educating provincial partners on the realities, reducing barriers to service among provincial organizations, informing im/migrant sex workers of province-wide services, and empowering them to access services in the communities in which they live and work.

At the end of the project, the organization will have provided prevention and response services to women in Greater Vancouver, developed and implemented promising prevention and intervention practices, built province-wide service network with partner organizations, and empowered im/migrant sex workers across BC to access local community services.

The project will include an external evaluation that will look at the success and scalability of the promising practices.

The supplemental funding will be used to scale the initial promising practice by engaging and mentoring settlement agencies to reduce barriers to service for im/migrant sex workers, providing trafficking prevention and intervention for im/migrant sex workers in new communities, informing them of low-barrier services, and empowering them to access settlement services in the communities in which they live and work.
