Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Home-Base Keeping track of home-base during self-motion in microgravity
25ISS24-3
Astronauts need to know where they are relative to their spacecraft as they move about in microgravity. The Principal Investigator (PI) team’s previous experiments demonstrated that astronauts adapt quickly to the novel perceptual environment of the International Space Station (ISS) and can reliably estimate how far they have moved in a straight-line using vision alone. However, other experiments have demonstrated that the perception of self-rotation in microgravity may be disrupted. The PI team’s proposed experiment assesses how effectively an astronaut can keep track of their starting position (their “home-base”) after experiencing a combination of linear and rotational visual information indicating motion along a three-dimensional path typical of that experienced in the ISS. Motion will be experienced passively and participants will judge the distance travelled and the direction of home-base following the motion. Keeping track of one’s home-base is a critically important skill for emergency egress or efficient travel. Understanding errors made will suggest compensatory strategies.

AI-Enabled Vision and Lighting System for Autonomous Explosion-Proof Robotic Cleaning
1034303
This project marks the next phase of ACS’s R&D, advancing toward AI-enabled industrial automation. ACS is developing an integrated vision and lighting system for use in autonomous, explosion-proof robotic cleaning tools. Combining high-intensity, hazardous-rated lighting with computer vision, the system will enable real-time coverage tracking, obstacle detection, and environment mapping. Designed for Class I, Div 1 zones, this innovation will lay the foundation for intelligent decision-making in zero-entry tank and vessel cleaning.

AI-Driven Solutions for Veterinarians: Shift Approval Predictability Prototype
1034357
This project will develop an AI-powered tool enabling relief veterinarians to assess the likelihood of a shift being approved by clinics. The tool factors in current market dynamics, negotiation parameters, vet profiles, and clinic preferences to deliver real-time predictive insights. Designed to support strategic decision-making, it empowers vets to optimize their time, increase income stability, and reduce emotional fatigue from rejections or uncertainty. This initiative aligns with the Firm's mission to provide structure, autonomy, and financial clarity for independent veterinarians.

Establishing a Data Provenance and Trust Layer on a Digital Twin Platform for Enterprise Deployments of Agentic AI
1034527
The Verto Digital Twin platform is evolving to meet growing demand from health systems for AI-ready infrastructure. This project aims to enable agentic AI by: (1) building a high-performance access layer for secure, scalable data retrieval; (2) enhancing data provenance with metadata tagging to improve trust and compliance; (3) integrating deeper patient-provider context to support precise, intelligent actions; and (4) establishing a robust security and auditing framework to ensure transparency and regulatory alignment. These enhancements will support real-time AI interactions across complex healthcare environments at scale.
