Currently, an estimated 855,000 Rohingya refugees live in 34 highly congested settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx resulted in significant humanitarian needs.

With GAC’s support, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) provides comprehensive protection programming for children at heightened risk of trafficking and abuse, focusing on prevention and response through a community-based approach. Project activities include: (1) providing gender-sensitive case management support for child survivors and children and adolescents at risk of protection violations; (2) providing family tracing and reunification support to unaccompanied and separated children; (3) supporting caregivers of vulnerable and at-risk children and adolescents with individualized protection support and multi-purpose cash assistance; and (4) providing training to local agencies and community volunteers on identification, referral and response for child protection cases.

P010168001: January 2021 – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides international protection and assistance to the world’s refugees, stateless persons, asylum seekers, and in some instances, internally displaced persons, including in response to the secondary impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect people’s lives and dignity affected by conflict and other violent situations. The ICRC assists and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

With GAC’s support and other donors, the ICRC’s humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other violent situations, and promote respect for international humanitarian law.

It aims to mobilize global and national efforts to contribute to the achievement of equitable, quality education and learning for all, through inclusive partnership, with a focus on effective and efficient education systems and increased financing. The GPE’s strategic goals include: improved and more equitable learning outcomes; increased equity, gender equality and inclusion; and effective and efficient education systems. It provides a platform for coordination among bilateral donors, developing countries, multilateral institutions and civil society organizations. The GPE also fosters mutual accountability, shares knowledge about best practices and encourages transparency at all levels.

Some program activities include: (1) providing country-level funding to increase children’s access to education; (2) supporting education sector plans that focus on increasing the quality of teaching and the number of qualified teachers; (3) providing appropriate reading materials to children; and (4) assessing the volume of financing to education at the global and country levels.

This contribution supports IFAD’s full environmental and climate mainstreaming agenda whose overarching goal is to strengthen the environmental sustainability and climate resilience of rural people to overcome poverty and achieve food security. The purposes of this loan are: (1) to support IFAD’s provision of loans to eligible Member States in line with IFAD’s commitment to ensure that its Programme of Loans and Grants is climate-focused; and (2) to support gender mainstreaming and gender-transformative projects.
Project activities include: (1) expanding IFAD’s support to smallholder farmers, particularly women; and (2) promoting farming practices adapted to climate change and adoption of technologies and practices which help reduce the carbon footprint from agricultural systems. This project enables poor populations to adapt to the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

P006570001: The objective of the Canada AfDB Climate Fund (CACF) is to enable climate change mitigation and adaptation projects with strong gender-responsive components in African developing countries. The CACF aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emission by scaling up renewable energy, supporting energy efficient projects, and developing green infrastructure and sustainable cities (e.g. waste management, urban transport, green infrastructure, digital solutions). The CACF also intends to support climate change adaptation and build climate resilience by helping to deliver climate-smart solutions for local economies, including clean energy (e.g. off-grid solar energy, clean cooking technology), climate-smart agriculture, and nature-based solutions (e.g. sustainable forestry). Gender equality, particularly the empowerment of women and girls, will be an objective across all concessional financing of the CACF, aiming at direct, measurable gender equality outcomes.

P006570002: The Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) will be part of the overall Canada-AfDBDevelopment Bank Climate Fund (CACF), which is aimed at enabling climate change mitigation and adaptation projects with strong gender-responsive components in African developing countries. The TAF will support projects in the CACF pipeline to address the increased technical complexity, coordination requirements and reporting obligations related to climate finance operations, as well as support project preparation activities that accelerate project development towards bankability. The TAF will provide grants to Eligible Projects under consideration or implementation that: (i) seek to address the specific costs and risks related to project preparation; (ii) increase the potential for achieving optimal results on key areas, such as gender and human rights, during project origination, implementation and supervision; and (iii) enhance knowledge management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning from CACF activities, not already covered by the Supervision fee in Section 2.4 Part I of the Arrangement. Proceeds from the TAF may also be used to contract consulting support for origination, program management, and monitoring and evaluation of Eligible Projects, as needed

The purpose of this CanExport Innovation grant agreement is to support organizations and to build on targeted relationships between Canadian companies/researchers and key organizations in other countries to allow them to proceed with formal discussions to initiate collaboration(s) on future international R&D initiatives that could lead to commercialization of Canadian technologies.

P010189001 & P010189002: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) primary mandate is to oversee the coordination of international humanitarian responses, in partnership with national and international actors, in order to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. This grant represents Canada’s support to the UN Country-Based Pooled Funds, managed by OCHA, in Ethiopia, Iraq, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Yemen.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfils its mandate through activities that include: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate by: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

P010077001 & P010077002: This project supports the Jordanian Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure that all girls and boys (including refugee children, children with disabilities, and out-of-school children) have access to quality education in Jordan, regardless of their nationality. This education promotes life skills, improved learning outcomes, and work readiness. This project builds on the first phase of the Accelerating Access Initiative (AAI), which supported the MoE to provide formal education in Jordanian’s public schools to more than 140,000 Syrian refugee children. Under the second phase of the AAI, the MoE expand its outreach to provide formal and non-formal education opportunities to over 200,000 children, including Syrian and refugee children of other nationalities, children with disabilities, out-of-school children and other vulnerable Jordanian children. Project activities include: (1) covering tuition fees and textbooks for all refugee children in Jordan; (2) providing training to teachers and educators on inclusive and gender-sensitive education, child protection and blended learning approaches; (3) meeting the needs of the most vulnerable children, including children with disabilities, by equipping non-formal education centers and schools with furniture and equipment and (4) supporting community-based approaches aimed at increasing enrollment rates and preventing school drop-outs in vulnerable communities.

As with all pooled funded projects, Canada collaborate with other donors and the Government of Jordan to promote effective, transparent, and accountable country systems, increase donor coordination and harmonization and strengthen mutual accountability. This type of assistance fosters greater policy dialogue among donors, government, and partners, strengthening efforts for effective focussed aid, and long-term development results. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors.
