The purpose of this CanExport Innovation grant agreement is to support organizations and to build on targeted relationships between Canadian companies/researchers and key organizations in other countries to allow them to proceed with formal discussions to initiate collaboration(s) on future international R&D initiatives that could lead to commercialization of Canadian technologies.

P010189001 & P010189002: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) primary mandate is to oversee the coordination of international humanitarian responses, in partnership with national and international actors, in order to achieve more coherent and effective humanitarian action. This grant represents Canada’s support to the UN Country-Based Pooled Funds, managed by OCHA, in Ethiopia, Iraq, Lebanon, Myanmar, Nigeria, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Yemen.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfils its mandate through activities that include: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

With the support of Canada and other donors, OCHA fulfills its mandate by: (1) strengthening humanitarian leadership; (2) establishing and overseeing coordination systems; (3) monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations; (4) advocating on behalf of affected people; (5) supporting the assessment and prioritization of humanitarian needs and strategic planning; (6) promoting emergency preparedness; and (7) mobilizing funding for humanitarian assistance.

P010077001 & P010077002: This project supports the Jordanian Ministry of Education (MoE) to ensure that all girls and boys (including refugee children, children with disabilities, and out-of-school children) have access to quality education in Jordan, regardless of their nationality. This education promotes life skills, improved learning outcomes, and work readiness. This project builds on the first phase of the Accelerating Access Initiative (AAI), which supported the MoE to provide formal education in Jordanian’s public schools to more than 140,000 Syrian refugee children. Under the second phase of the AAI, the MoE expand its outreach to provide formal and non-formal education opportunities to over 200,000 children, including Syrian and refugee children of other nationalities, children with disabilities, out-of-school children and other vulnerable Jordanian children. Project activities include: (1) covering tuition fees and textbooks for all refugee children in Jordan; (2) providing training to teachers and educators on inclusive and gender-sensitive education, child protection and blended learning approaches; (3) meeting the needs of the most vulnerable children, including children with disabilities, by equipping non-formal education centers and schools with furniture and equipment and (4) supporting community-based approaches aimed at increasing enrollment rates and preventing school drop-outs in vulnerable communities.

As with all pooled funded projects, Canada collaborate with other donors and the Government of Jordan to promote effective, transparent, and accountable country systems, increase donor coordination and harmonization and strengthen mutual accountability. This type of assistance fosters greater policy dialogue among donors, government, and partners, strengthening efforts for effective focussed aid, and long-term development results.

This project seeks to increase the adoption of gender-smart approaches in the Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI) sector.

Project activities include: (1) designing and implementing innovative models of care for equitable access; and (2) providing technical assistance to implement guidance, tools and training on key areas of primary healthcare system governance, such as strengthening health workforce capacity.

The initial project aims at accelerate the roll-out of safe, affordable, and effective COVID-19 diagnostics in Low- and Lower-Middle Income Countries. This project supports FIND in using testing technologies developed during COVID-19 to expand the range of diseases detected with a single test.

This project aims to improve the economic well-being of poor rural women, particularly ethnic minorities in Vietnam by increasing women’s participation in paid economic activities. The project also aims to challenge discriminatory gender norms by addressing the root causes of the unequal distribution of care work placed on women in Vietnam. At the national level, this project aims to influence the provision of public services, infrastructure, childcare and social protection policies.

The project aims to contribute to increased circumpolar and Indigenous knowledge sharing in the North, by Northern Canadians by increasing opportunities for Northern Canadians, including Indigenous peoples, to participate in UArctic north2north Mobility Program; strengthening relationships between UArctic member institutions and Canadian territorial post-secondary institutions; increasing opportunities for a Northern Canadian post-secondary Indigenous leader to contribute to UArctic initiatives; and strengthening capacity to align Indigenous Knowledge across the circumpolar north. To do so, the project implements the north2north Mobility Program, hosts a Vice President Indigenous position held by a senior Indigenous leader from Northern Canada, and creates tools to increase the visibility and accessibility of Indigenous content and knowledge within the UArctic network.

In order to reduce the risks of failure in rail infrastructure, a more advanced systematic health monitoring approach based on artificial intelligence methods is being researched. This Project aims to develop an AI-based tool to improve the health monitoring systems associated with rail infrastructure. This new tool will be able to provide long term and short-term prediction of the rail temperature as a key component for rail infrastructure safety, and the new tool will be based on artificial intelligence approaches that combine the observational historical data on climatic and weather conditions with computer techniques. The tool can be fed with long-term and short-term projections of climatic condition to provide insight into the rail temperature changes and its implications for rail infrastructure safety.
