The objectives of the Program are: • promoting volunteerism among seniors; • engaging seniors in the community through mentoring of others; • expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse; • supporting social participation and inclusion of seniors; and • providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.

To assist Anna Tilman in submitting a written intervention for the Commission hearing-in-writing in relation to Bruce Power's licence amendment application for the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station.

The preparatory process includes two regional review meetings in spring 2021, hosted by Bangladesh and Malawi, and two meetings of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee, of which Canada is a Bureau member. The preparatory process and conference itself facilitate the participation of civil society and youth from LDCs.

Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating community-based centres and community health facilities with emphasis on climate resistant buildings and optimum water, sanitation and hygiene facilities; (2) implementing age appropriate programming focusing on migrants and children of the hinterland; (3) assessing the state of school environments in dormitory schools and consult with all stakeholders including the children in schools; (4) drafting Guyana Standards for Dormitory Schools, including the human and financial resource needs, and monitoring tool and consistent with the Regional standards and with the Ministry’s policies and plans; and (5) increasing access to menstrual hygiene-related education, materials, and disposal options.

This project aims to empower the most underserved and disenfranchised women and girls in Bangladesh (including those with disabilities) to gain greater access to and control over resources, decisions and actions that affect their lives. The project components are designed to achieve the following goals: (1) lowering levels of extreme poverty; (2) increasing access to quality essential services for the poorest and most marginalized groups in Bangladesh; (3) creating employment opportunities for underprivileged youth, extremely poor disabled people and migrants; (4) increasing economic and social empowerment of women; (5) improving the status of women and girls and reduce violence against women girls; and (6) improving COVID-19 management by communities.

Project activities include: (1) enabling 6,650 households to graduate from extreme poverty with better sustainable livelihoods and socioeconomic resilience; (2) strengthening the resilience of 17,500 climate vulnerable households; (3) providing comprehensive health and SRHR services to 100,000 people; (4) supporting 5,550 children (at least 50% girls and 2% with disabilities) to complete primary education with better learning competencies; (5) training 1,360 people with marketable skills linked to decent employment opportunities; (6) providing counseling and legal aid services to 20,750 women survivors of violence against women; (7) engaging with over 1 million people through awareness efforts on violence against women and children and prevention of child marriage; (8) producing and distributing reusable cloth masks among the low-income people to slow down community transmission of COVID-19; (9) improving protective health initiatives through community engagement and communication for better case management, infection prevention, risk reduction and awareness building; and (10) creating access to livelihood support mechanisms in post-pandemic recovery.

January 2021 - The WFP-managed United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) provides essential air services for the humanitarian community to very remote and very challenging locations.

March 2021 – Following the outbreak of violence in Northern Rakhine State in August 2017, more than 700,000 Rohingya people crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh over a period of several months. Currently, an estimated 855,000 Rohingya refugees live in 34 highly congested settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx resulted in significant humanitarian needs.

With GAC’s support, BRAC provides essential primary healthcare services to Rohingya refugees, focusing on increasing health-seeking behaviour and improving care for women. Project activities include: (1) upgrading and equipping healthcare facilities; (2) providing outpatient care such as medical consultations, immunizations for children, and medication; (3) offering sexual and reproductive health services, medical support and referrals for sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) cases, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS); (4) training health service providers in sexual and reproductive health and rights, SGBV, MHPSS and adolescent health; and (5) providing training to community health volunteers doing outreach in the refugee camps.

Project activities include: (1) providing support for the expansion/repair/renovation of the Mohakhali College of Nursing complex and the proposed site of the National Nurse Teachers Training Institute (NNTTI); (2) developing and implementing a NNTTI Certificate Training Program; (3) developing and implementing a system of continuous professional development; (4) developing a comprehensive competency-based, gender-responsive nursing career path; and (5) engaging influencers/policymakers in improving the status of nursing.
This project delivers on Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy priorities of gender equality, women and girls’ empowerment, and human dignity.

This project will help fund a Special Grants Call launched by the Commonwealth Foundation to support innovative national initiatives which help communities recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic. Capacity-building grants will be awarded to civil society-led organizations in support of their efforts to engage constructively with government in strengthening policies and practices in COVID recovery efforts. Recipients will be selected based on their explicit focus on advancing the rights and interests of marginalised communities and groups. Gender and its intersectionality will receive special attention in the project selection, as well as in capacity building of grantees.
