The project aims to increase access to justice for victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in El Salvador, particularly women and girls, so that they can implement their rights more effectively.

This project aims to support the promotion of human rights in El Salvador by increasing access to justice for vulnerable populations, particularly victims of sexual and GBV. Project activities include: (1) training and coaching lawyers and civil society organizations to actively participate in legal and democratic processes to reduce impunity and improve the rule of law in El Salvador; and (2) fostering the collaboration of Lawyers Without Borders with their partners in the field, to improve the effectiveness of human rights judicial proceedings through training and technical support from specialized lawyers.

The project benefits all victims of GBV, in particular women, girls, and members of the LGBTQ2I community. This will represent a significant step forward in terms of access to justice, the fight against impunity and a change of mentality within the judicial system and society. The project works directly with some 500 actors in the justice system and civil society organizations (CSOs), and with over 5,000 people, including 2,500 women and girls.

This project aims to improve the exercise of the right to sexual and reproductive health (SDSR) of 68,470 Haitians who are direct beneficiaries (20,153 women / 14,424 girls / 19,754 men / 14,139 boys) and 116,724 Haitians who are indirect beneficiaries (23,153 women / 14,424 girls / 19,754 men / 14,139 boys) and 116,724 Haitian indirect beneficiaries (23 736 women, 35210 girls, 34512 boys and 23266 men). Direct beneficiaries targeted by age group include 9,121 girls and 8,940 boys aged 7-14, 5,304 adolescent girls and 5,198 adolescents aged 15-19, as well as 20,153 adult women and 19,754 adult men aged 20-45 in the municipalities of Léogâne and Gress Western Department of Haiti. Implemented by L'UVRE LÉGER, Social Justice Connection (CJS) and the Haitian Institute of Community Health (INHSAC), the project will work on two fronts: the first aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of community and societal actions Leogane and Gressier, particularly women and adolescents, youth and women's groups, to assert their sexual and reproductive health rights (rights holders); and the second, to support this same civil society to initiate a dialogue on the SDSR with political leaders, officials and managers of the health institutions of the two municipalities and the communal health coordination body (Community Health Unit strengthen the accountability of these same institutions (debtors) to their communities. The project will use an innovative and proven methodology, TRANS21, to improve, strengthen and enhance citizen participation in the SDSR sector in an endogenous and participatory manner. This project will also help support Haiti's Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) in the implementation of the National Health Policy (2012), the National Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategic Plan 2018-2022, the National Community Participation Strategy and, more generally, the 2012-2022 Health Master Plan.

Because SDSR issues are intrinsically linked to gender equality and gender-based violence (GVb), the project will also aim to strengthen women's and girls' empowerment in sDSRs in terms of access to information, education and health and family planning services (through referencing to local services supported by the Maternal and Child Health Project (PROSAMI) implemented by L'UVRE LÉGER and detailed more low). Combining these two initiatives will provide a holistic response to SDSR, enabling women and adolescents to make informed decisions, protect their health, claim their rights and mobilize to make them to health policy and program decision-makers in their region. As responsible for the implementation of the structuring outreach and training activities with the communities of Léogâne and Gressier, the Haitian NGO INHSAC will work closely in support and reinforcement with the Gressier and Léogâne (ROFGL) women's organizations for achieving the results. At the end of the project, the Group (newly formed in April 2017), its ten member organizations and other member organizations will become strong agents of civil society change in favour of the SDSR in the Western Department of the country. .

February 2021 - This grant represents Canada's support to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in six countries, namely Bangladesh, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sudan, Venezuela, and Yemen. IOM provides humanitarian assistance to populations facing a heightened risk of vulnerability, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, migrants and host communities. IOM provides assistance in multiple sectors, including protection, shelter, emergency non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene services, livelihoods, and camp coordination and management. This grant supports IOM’s objective of saving lives and responding to needs through humanitarian assistance and protection.

With the support of GAC and other donors, IOM is facilitating access to essential relief items and adequate living conditions for crisis-affected populations, including IDPs, refugees, migrants, returnees and host communities.

Project activities include: (1) providing emergency shelter kits, non-food items and multi-purpose cash; (2) coordinating camp management, site care and maintenance; (3) deploying mobile teams to remote locations where affected populations lack water, sanitation and hygiene services; (4) providing health support, mental health and psychosocial support in humanitarian response; (5) providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene; (6) providing support services for humanitarian organizations by establishing humanitarian hubs in deep field locations; (7) data collection that includes mapping of vulnerable populations at points of entry and at the district and community level for enhanced targeting and delivery of humanitarian assistance; and (8) protection and gender mainstreaming across humanitarian response activities for extremely vulnerable individuals, including unaccompanied migrant children and single women and adolescent girls.

March 2021 - Years of active conflict and displacement inside Syria have resulted in severe protection risks, including widespread sexual and gender-based violence for millions of conflicted-affected people. Sexual exploitation and abuse of beneficiaries by humanitarian aid workers is a serious concern for the international humanitarian and development community and represents one of the most egregious failures of protection. The prevention of and response to sexual exploitation and abuse by aid workers on beneficiaries is a priority of the United Nations Secretary-General and the international community to ensure that assistance does not harm beneficiaries.

With GAC’s support, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is maintaining and expanding the systematic inter-agency approach between humanitarian organizations to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse of beneficiaries by aid workers within Syria. Project activities include: (1) strengthening codes of conduct of aid workers within humanitarian organizations; (2) developing and strengthening a community-based complaints mechanism for complainants/survivors that have been sexually exploited and/or abused by aid workers; and (3) establishing and strengthening networks amongst humanitarian organizations inside Syria to manage the prevention of and response to sexual exploitation and abuse on beneficiaries by aid workers.

This project aims to improve the economic well-being of Vietnamese people, including women and other vulnerable groups, in Vietnam. After two decades of strong economic growth and poverty reduction gains, Vietnam needs to improve and expand its infrastructure while ensuring its environmental sustainability and climate change commitments. The Global Infrastructure Hub estimates that Vietnam would need to invest USD 110 billion between 2021 and 2025 in infrastructure to meet its Sustainable Development Goals, while its current public-financing capacity is only USD 15-18 billion per year.

This project supports the Organization of American States’ Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP) in carrying out its mandate to observe, report on, and support peacebuilding in Colombia. Project activities include: (1) monitoring, reporting on and providing recommendations to authorities on the conflict dynamics in the territories in which the MAPP operates, and the impact of conflict on local communities, including ethnic communities, women and girls; (2) providing accompaniment to state and civil society-led peacebuilding activities related to truth and reparations, victim participation (including through a different lens that includes women), land restitution, accountability/judicial matters and detainees; (3) facilitating coordination between peacebuilding stakeholders, including rural, conflict-affected communities and the state, and (4) supporting the Truth Commission in promoting culturally appropriate activities for ethnic women in the context of the Truth Commission’s mandate.
