Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Satellite Video Analytic Software Development
963606
The software developed will provide various machine learning tools to retrieve a wide variety of information about the video and imagery being analyzed. The simple user-friendly graphic user interface will let the operator to easily use the software with very little prior experience with the software. The software solution for satellite imagery processing can be applied in maritime environments with ship detection, semantic segmentation, identification, and tracking for satellite videos for both visualization within the software and to export the extracted information in remote sensing standard formats like geoJSON.

Japan ATR 2020-21 Horticulture - aka Horticultural Analytics Platform
964072
Japan ATR Horticulture project with Japanese partner Toray to develop inexpensive, self-powered edge analytics nodes designed for use in controlled horticulture environments such as greenhouses and vertical farms. A Proof Of Concept project has been established with a major Japanese construction company developing a new residential area greenhouse concept, but they are experiencing problems with pest insect infestations.
Using machine intelligence at the edge nodes equipped with insect traps and many sensors including cameras, bugs are identified along with associated environmental readings. More data processing and machine intelligence algorithms at the cloud data center receive edge node reports and identify patterns in pest occurrence, optimizing greenhouse operations.

Developing cost-effective fabrication processes for a wearable ultrasound device
964640
The transducer and electronics of an ultrasound probe can be significantly optimized and simplified by careful design for a specific application. The FloPatch uses continuous wave Doppler ultrasound, with relatively simple electronics to produce a pressure wave from one of two identical transducers and process the echoes received by the other. We have developed functional prototypes with a miniaturized, wearable form factor and demonstrated their ability to measure changes in carotid blood flow. The challenge now is to make the device low cost, and therefore commercially viable.
