Drawing on this analysis, the scholarship recipient will develop a methodologically sound assessment framework that recognizes inherent variability in programming designed to interact with different genders, communities, and regions.

Project activities include: (1) providing environmentally friendly, age- and gender�sensitive water, sanitation and hygiene promotion; (2) implementing environment-friendly hygienic waste management measures, such as provision of bins and drainage repair; (3) providing gender, age and culturally appropriate hygiene kits, as well as dignity kits for women and girls; (4) providing gender, age and culturally appropriate counselling, and information on health and family planning services; (5) establishing two child-friendly spaces for children and youth, and two women and girls’ safe spaces with protection services; and (6) providing training to Men’s Watch Groups on issues such as gender equality, women’s empowerment, women’s rights, and sexual and gender-based violence.

Project activities include: (1) delivering gender-sensitive hygiene promotion and hygiene kits; (2) improving water distribution systems; (3) improving desludging of existing latrine facilities, and access to gender-sensitive latrines; (4) conducting sensitization campaigns on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and providing information on referral systems and services for survivors; and (5) providing cash grants to internally displaced persons, prioritizing particularly vulnerable groups such as pregnant and lactating women.

Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating existing water and sanitation facilities; (2) constructing gender sensitive communal latrines based on women and girl-led designs; (3) conducting hygiene promotion in refugee and host community schools; and (4) training of local authorities and traditional leaders on women and girls’ roles and rights, legal entitlements, protection and referral pathways.

This 60-month project will test the Community Safety Circle – a program that brings together service providers to create survivor-led, customized safety and support plans – as a promising practice in order to provide greater safety to women living in rural, remote and northern communities throughout Canada who do not have access to an emergency shelter.

This project will test and evaluate the Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society’s Indigenous Framework for Healing and Wellness in order to address gaps in supports for Indigenous gender-based violence (GBV) survivors and their families.
