Inuit Family Courtwork and Gladue Writer Pilot project will pilot the first dedicated resources to represent Inuit clients in Manitoba. Working through a steering committee, MIA will create a Gladue pilot writer position, family courtwork position, develop internal training manuals and operational frameworks.

The Gladue Writers Project will consist of two separate three-day training opportunities for a total of 40 current and new Gladue writers. One workshop will be located on Cape Breton Island and the other will be located on the mainland of Nova Scotia. Writers will receive consistent, up to date training and tool kit to ensure reports contain accurate information.

The project will improve access to justice by making quality resources on Gladue accessible to French speaking Indigenous peoples, front line workers, Indigenous Courtworkers and other legal professionals including lawyers, judges and advocates across Canada.

Mi’Kmaq Confederacy of PEI will send 3 court workers to shadow the work of the NCCABC for 3 days in British Columbia to build capacity and professionalism for the role of the ICW through the Indigenous Justice Program in PEI.

The SCO Gladue Pilot Project will build on the SCO Gladue Report Framework Development Project report, which assesses and demonstrates the needs for and implications of an SCO Gladue writing program. The project will include 1 full-time Gladue Pilot Project Manager and 3 full-time Gladue Writers; the manager will provide guidance and supervision to the writers and will produce reports when possible and needed.

The Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network Gladue Pilot Project, which will provide Gladue reports across the province using a hybrid staff/roster model, leading to the development of a Gladue report writing framework appropriate for Newfoundland and Labrador. The project will be overseen by a Gladue Manager located in Stephenville, who will oversee the project with a steering committee comprised of partners and stakeholders. Staff Gladue writers will work from the NAWN offices and out of the Labrador Friendship Offices (LFC) in Goose Bay. The roster will be comprised of writers from various locations.

Siksika Pomiikapi Justice Society: Healing our spirit – mental health training project in Alberta will focus on developing a debrief process and provide mental health and wellness training to Indigenous courtwork staff including support/Justice staff in their organization. The training sessions will be held once every other month for 5-6 training sessions for 18-25 people. Indigenous Elders will be involved in the training to provide traditional methods of healing to the staff and court workers.

The SCO Gladue Pilot Project will build on the SCO Gladue Report Framework Development Project report, which assesses and demonstrates the needs for and implications of an SCO Gladue writing program. The project will include 1 full-time Gladue Pilot Project Manager and 3 full-time Gladue Writers; the manager will provide guidance and supervision to the writers and will produce reports when possible and needed.

The Gladue Writer Mentorship Program project will design and implement a Gladue Training Project in the Yorkton Tribal Council region. The project will train 30 Indigenous Gladue writers in order to increase the capacity within the province to produce Gladue Reports. The project will have three phases: Produce documents on the history of YTC Communities; Training of Gladue principles and report writing, and develop a Gladue mentorship Program.
