The NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships-Doctoral Program (PGS D) provides financial support to high calibre scholars who are engaged in a doctoral program in the natural sciences or engineering. This support allows these scholars to fully concentrate on their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields.

The Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) aims to enable Canadian universities to foster research excellence and to enhance their role in the global, knowledge-based economy as world-class centres of research excellence; to provide targeted resources to help attract and retain a cadre of world class researchers to reinforce academic research excellence in Canadian universities; and to support internationally competitive research and research capacity that generates social, economic and cultural benefits for Canada.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

Alliance grants encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations, which can be from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. These grants support research projects led by strong, complementary, collaborative teams that will generate new knowledge and accelerate the application of research results to create benefits for Canada.

1. Promote research independence and academic research career readiness of highly qualified post-doctoral researchers, clinicians and PhD-holding research associates belonging to specific underrepresented groups;
2. Increase the number of funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups conducting excellent research who secure their first independent research faculty position in a Canadian academic, health system or research institution; and
3. Provide funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups with early career support to enhance their probability of future success in obtaining independent research funding and launching successful research faculty careers in Canada that will contribute to the creation and/or use of health-related knowledge to improve the health of Canadians.

The Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages by new and regular scholars. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas.

Building on the success of the previous project that led to the design and development of an innovative indoor vertical farming system for the microgreens with highest space use efficiency, energy use efficiency (45X) with no free flowing water, no nutrient leaching and no wastage; and the development of a unique, and innovative “Zero-Touch” Production Technologies for various microgreens with zero-pesticides, zero-wastage, zero-contamination, zero-nutrient loss, this project will advance the Zero-Touch” Technologies to understand the
phenotypic adaptations, discover the best Alternative Gelling Agents (AGAs), and to develop a plant health monitoring system using multispectral imaging technologies.
