Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Developing of reagent combinations for the visual detection of SARS-CoV-2
955496
The team proposes to develop a molecular assay that identifies SARS-CoV-2 from saliva by a color change in 30 minutes. This assay consists of reagents that will amplify the SARS-CoV-2 genetic material 10 thousand fold. The amplified genetic material will bind to 13-nm gold nanoparticles coated with complementary single stranded DNA. The color of the solution changes because the gold nanoparticle will be assembled onto the SARS-CoV-2 amplified gene. The clustering of the gold nanoparticle changes how the electrons are moving, leading to different absorbance properties. This can be visualized by the change in the color of the solution of gold nanoparticles from red to blue. A positive detection is when the solution is blue. The team proposes to develop a formulation consisting of enzymes, salts, and gold nanoparticle-conjugates.

Augmented reality system with AI modules for efficient remote guidance of drones
955579
This Project aims at developing a system for the remote guidance of drones that will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and generic augmented reality (AR) to improve drone capabilities to carry out complex tasks related to transportation. Drones can be remotely guided by an expert or a team of technicians that could be located anywhere, and the system will allow for efficient on-site, on-time inspection and delivery, and thus quick and efficient intervention and remote guidance. In the recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and especially drones, have emerged as one of the most promising technologies in civil applications such as infrastructure inspection and maintenance, environmental surveillance and monitoring and transportation. In the transportation domain, drones can play a central role in ensuring remote and rapid parcel or medical supply delivery and infrastructure inspection (e.g., roads, rails, cardo vessels, stations, ports, airports).
However, one of the main issues that can hinder the large-scale utilisation of drones is the difficulty of ensuring a robust and rapid interaction to a complex and dynamic environment and reacting to hazardous situations that can disrupt tasks and safe
navigation (e.g., difficult terrain, weather conditions, obstacles, power lines).
