Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Impact of orbital radiation on next-generation high-performance semiconductor nanowire single-photon detectors
22STDPT08
Quantum technology has the potential to revolutionize the modern world and provide numerous opportunities to enhance space applications. Quantum key distribution can be used to distribute highly secure encryption keys in a manner such that any attempt at eavesdropping would be detected. Quantum sensing could be used to obtain 3D images of spacecrafts and objects of interest kilometers away with millimeter precision, enabling precise surface damage assessment for spacecraft and detection of small orbital debris. Both of these quantum technology applications have one crucial device in common: ultra-sensitive single-photon detectors. Single Quantum Systems is developing a revolutionary single-photon detector based on a unique semiconductor nanostructure design which has the potential to become one of the best single-photon detector ever created. This project will assess the potential benefit of our detector for space applications by evaluating the impact of radiation exposure to determine its performance in the harsh environment of space.

LAU-7b as next-generation COVID-19 therapeutic - COVID-19 Response-Stage 3 (TI): antiviral & Inflammation Controlling Therapeutic Drug Clinical Evaluation
1002706
The project is focusing on Phase 3 pivotal study of LAU-7b in moderate-to-severe hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and has a component allowing the transition to a new Phase 2 clinical development in mild-to-moderate non-hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
LAU-7b is a next-generation COVID-19 antiviral that addresses the gap between early infection and critical COVID-19 disease, and aims for broad applicability at-home or in hospital. Because its host-directed mechanism, LAU-7b has the potential to work on all mutations of COVID-19, and other coronaviruses. Results from the Phase 2 pilot study showed 100% reduction in the risk of progression to mechanical ventilation and death in hospitalized moderate-to-severe patient.

USDA collaboration - Avian Pathogenic E.coli (APEC) on hatchery eggs.
1002745
Clean Works has been presented with a significant opportunity to advance our Clean Flow technology within the poultry and hatchery market. The USDA and Mississippi State University would use our Clean Flow Mini units to evaluate Avian Pathogenic E.coli (APEC) and other pathogen reductions on hatchery eggs. This will provide significant validation of our technology in the global market. The outcome of the studies will result in published papers in the poultry industry denoting the Canadian invention and creation of further commercialization opportunities globally within the poultry sector.
