Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Government House Historical Society Archives
2021-0137
The Government House Historical Society (GHHS) will organize documents related to its establishment in 1969. These include assets from the Lieutenant Governor's Office, the Provincial Capital Commission and the GHHS.
The organization will catalogue and store documents for future access by staff, volunteers and the public. This phase will identify the scope and volume of the collection and guide the organization on future steps.
The GHHS will hire an archivist to convert existing materials to a consistent file format, establish processes to preserve current and future assets, and research database management software to catalogue documents. In addition, the GHHS will train collection stakeholders.

Jewish Independent—40 Years of Community Newspapers
2021-0158
The Jewish Western Bulletin began as a local Jewish community newspaper in British Columbia in 1925. Known today as The Jewish Independent, the paper provided a community space for all, "regardless of affiliation, politics, gender, orientation, ability, denomination or age, to find out what their Jewish community has to offer."
The Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia (JMABC) collected these newspapers for decades, and in 2006 it worked with Simon Fraser University to digitize them. In 2011, the JMABC acquired the research and photographic collection that supported the newspaper from 1970 to the early 2000s. This project involves processing these files and making them accessible.
