About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

P003038001: In light of persistently high levels of maternal mortality and unmet need for family planning, and prevalent harmful practices (including female genital mutilation and child marriage), the Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Indonesia project, in partnership with UNFPA and UNICEF, aims to transform sexual and reproductive health and rights for women and young people in Indonesia by addressing key gaps in the quality of birth attendants, access to comprehensive sexuality education and youth-friendly services for young people, and advocacy and community-based programming for the prevention of gender-based violence and harmful practices using the male involvement approach (focusing on child marriage and female genital mutilation). This initiative is directly aligned with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and supports Canada's commitment of $650M over three years to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)

Support to Haiti's Fifth General Population and Housing Census

From the census results, IHSI produces thematic reports that include gender analysis of the topics covered, including the ‘Women in Haiti’ report that provides an overview of the situation of girls and women in the country in terms of social, demographic and economic characteristics. Reliable census data contributes to a better capacity to address gender equality issues in Haiti.

Bangladesh - Humanitarian Response to the Rohingya Refugee Crisis - Development and Peace 2018

January 2018 – Following the outbreak of violence in Northern Rakhine State in August 2017, more than 647,000 Rohingya crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh over a period of several months. These refugees joined more than 200,000 Rohingya already in the district of Cox's Bazar following earlier waves of displacement.
With GAC’s support, Development and Peace is helping to respond to the immediate needs of refugees in Cox’s Bazar, including the specific needs of women and girls. Activities include: (1) providing shelter support according to Sphere Standards (Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response) and considering the specific needs of beneficiaries, particularly women and girls; (2) providing essential non-food items for vulnerable households; (3) providing hygiene kits with items that meet the specific needs of women and girls; (4) improving access to safe drinking water; and (5) provision of child-friendly spaces.

Empowering the Palestinian Security Sector

P005189001 & P005189002: This project aims to improve the operation of the Palestinian security sector, through support to the Office of the Quartet (OQ), in a manner that improves the lives of Palestinians and helps ensure stability in the West Bank and Gaza. Project activities include: (1) helping the Palestinian Authority increase safety and security in Palestinian communities where security services have not previously been available; (2) strengthening the functioning of the Customs Police; and (3) monitoring and assessing relevant policies, actions or activities that relate to the security and justice sectors. The project is also assessing the ability of the Palestinian judicial police to serve warrants and execute judgments of the family courts, which impact women and children in particular.
