Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Women Peace and Security (WPS) Focal Points Network (FPN)

Agreement Number:

7420629 P008163001

Duration: from May 28, 2020 to Jul 31, 2022
Description:

The project aims to increase the capacity of the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Secretariat, operating under UN Women. The purpose of the Secretariat is to improve information sharing between WPS Focal Points Networks (FPN) member states and WPS practitioners to foster the continued exchange. This type of information includes best practices, lessons learned and flow of knowledge products on WPS issues to the WPS FPN and WPS practitioners.

The WPS FPN was created in the recognition that national and regional efforts are vital for the full and effective implementation and coordination of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda.

Project activities include: (1) increasing engagement and coordination between National FPNs and WPS practitioners; (2) creating and maintaining a WPS FPN website providing resources and information on WPS initiatives, research and trends at local, national, regional and global levels; (3) expanding and creating content for the FPNs’ social media outreach; (4) conducting targeted analysis on the implementation of WPS National Action Plans in support of and building on existing initiatives being led by civil society and other key stakeholders; and (5) supporting the conduct of high-quality annual FPN meetings.

The direct beneficiaries of the project are WPS national and regional FPNs, governments, international and regional organizations, civil society actors of all genders, and civil society organizations.
