This project aims to increase the economic participation and resilience of 18,400 disadvantaged youth (10,915 young women and 1,050 youth living with disabilities) in Ethiopia, Rwanda and Somalia. It does so by providing them with the skills and support needed to succeed in the growing green economy. The project aims to improve the teaching capacity of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions by revising curricula and providing technical and material support, particularly in emerging and green skills. It also supports disadvantaged youth gain marketable skills needed to successfully find and sustain employment through financial support for TVET enrollment, entrepreneurship training, and employability skills training. The project also seeks to increase formal employment and entrepreneurship opportunities by providing business development services, internship placements or access to waged jobs. This project contributes to poverty reduction in Ukraine by increasing rural women’s income and addressing the deficits in food production caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion, environmental challenges, and persistent gender inequality. The project targets women farmers, members and leadership of selected agricultural cooperatives, agricultural extension services, agricultural marketing boards, and government decision-makers. While the project is focused on supporting women farmers, some support is provided to other vulnerable groups, such as veterans and internally displaced people in the project areas. Project activities include: (1) training and mentoring in landmine safety, climate-smart agriculture and advocacy; (2) introducing improved technology; (3) supporting cooperative development; (4) strengthening market linkages in selected agricultural value chains; and (5) supporting policy dialogue.

This project aims to fund international and regional capacity-building activities to counter North Korean sanctions evasion. Project activities include: (1) strengthening North Korean sanctions enforcement and information-sharing capabilities of maritime and compliance officials in Latin America; (2) strengthening information-sharing capabilities of maritime authorities in the Indo-Pacific; (3) capacity-building on North Korean counter-proliferation finance in Francophone Africa; and (4) cybersecurity training for maritime stakeholders in 4 Indo-Pacific countries.

The Recipient will participate in activities directly related and attributable to participation in Finance Canada’s engagement process on Indigenous economic participation in Trans Mountain to benefit their communities. It is expected that the Indigenous Participant Funding Program will help to support the meaningful participation of Indigenous groups in initiatives related to the future divestment of Trans Mountain, led by Finance Canada or within the Minister of Finance’s purview.
