Upgrade and repair waterfront facilities

The objective of this project is to help Canadian dairy farmers improve productivity through upgrades to their equipment.

This project provides funding for cooperation programs and activities carried out by The Organisation internationale de la francophonie (OIF) and its sub-entities operating under a specific mandate: the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), the Association internationale des maires francophones (AIMF) and Senghor University. These programs promote Canadian interests and are consistent with Canada's political and economic objectives within La Francophonie.

This project supports the development of Jordan’s National Education Strategic Plan (ESP). Through technical assistance provided to the Government of Jordan, Canada's contribution supports the Ministry of Education in developing a robust plan to clearly articulate Jordan’s education commitments into one coherent, achievable and measurable five-year plan. This technical support complements Canada’s direct budget support to the education sector in Jordan.

This project is implemented by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP).

September 2016 – The humanitarian situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate as armed clashes between Daesh and government forces drive displacement. Since January 2014, over 3.3 million people have been displaced and an additional 887,000 previously displaced people have returned to their homes that have often been destroyed, making it one of the largest cases of internal displacement in the world. Persecution of minority groups is an ongoing concern as well as the protection of women and children who are at an increased risk of (and in some cases targeted for) sexual violence such as rape, as well as child, early and forced marriage. Canada is helping reduce the vulnerability of hundreds of thousands of crisis-affected people, especially women and children, through a broad spectrum of humanitarian assistance activities across Iraq.

GAC’s multi-year humanitarian support to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iraq is contributing to addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and meeting the reproductive health (RH) needs of vulnerable women and girls. Project activities include: (1) distributing Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) Dignity Kits; (2) conducting SGBV case management for survivors; (3) providing mobile SGBV services along internally displaced corridors; (4) establishing women-only community centres and spaces; (5) disseminating information on SGBV risk mitigation and available services; (6) strengthening coordination mechanisms of multi-sectoral SGBV responses; (7) building the capacity of national SGBV service providers; (8) providing emergency life-saving RH services to new pregnant women, internally displaced persons (IDP) and returnees through mobile delivery rooms and clinics; (9) procuring medical equipment and RH kits; and (10) establishing RH clinics in new IDP camps.

This project aims to help Lebanese authorities provide basic security and justice services in host communities. Lebanese municipalities are the primary line of response to the Syrian refugee crisis despite being very under-resourced to provide the services they are expected to deliver. In host communities, many people rely on informal mechanisms to resolve conflict, and those with little social capital, such as women, youth, and refugees may avoid claiming their rights altogether, leaving grievances unaddressed.

Project activities include: (1) strengthening the municipal police force; (2) developing an early warning and early response mechanism to monitor and respond to tensions in host communities; and (3) providing legal aid to vulnerable people, especially women. The project also promotes measures to increase the number of female municipal police officers and sensitize both the judicial and municipal police to issues of violence against women.

September 2016 – The Syria Crisis has undermined security and stability in the Middle East and has resulted in unprecedented humanitarian needs. Now in its sixth year, the conflict in Syria has led to the worst displacement crisis in the world. Millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, stateless persons and asylum seekers in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey are vulnerable to violence, food and income insecurity, health risks, and sexual and gender-based violence. Canada is helping to reduce the vulnerability of millions of crisis-affected people, especially women and children, through a broad spectrum of humanitarian assistance activities across Syria and in refugee hosting countries.

GAC’s multi-year humanitarian support to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Jordan and Lebanon is contributing to meeting the needs of vulnerable women and girls, particularly related to reproductive health and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
