Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Enhancing Balance in Older Adults: A Vision-Based Guided Exercise Augmented Reality System
1028717
The team aims to develop and assess a novel vision-based guided augmented reality exercise system tailored for older adults. Leveraging collaborative efforts from the National Research Council's vision-based skeletal technology, McMaster University Geras Centre for Aging Research's clinical evidence-based movement protocols, industry expertise, and experts by experience, the prototype will take the form of an augmented reality interface. This interface aims to guide older adults through balance and resistance exercises, employing real-time vision-based technology to monitor 3D movement patterns. Phase one involves the development of a co-designed movement protocol emphasizing cultural sensitivity and user-friendliness.Phase two will see the launch of a fully functional visual feedback system prototype using standard PC and RGB- D cameras. The third phase will involve rigorous reliability and validity testing in collaboration with healthcare professionals, with the goal of creating a low-cost, technology-driven solution to improve balance and reduce fall-risk.

Using a modular, standardized, service core to advance affordable housing in the Northwest Territories.
1028727
Housing NWT is tackling the challenges of delivering affordable housing to 33 northern communities, such as housing affordability, vulnerable transportation networks due to climate change, and community involvement in design and construction. To help address this challenge, they have developed a hybrid housing system featuring a standardized modular “service core” that can be transported to remote areas and then completed by local builders. This Project will perform a detailed analysis of this prototype in order to refine the system and share it as a potential solution across the north.
