This project will conduct research on historical inherent principles of sovereignty and traditional laws related to justice of the nine Nations. It will allow research on how breaches of traditional laws, including criminal matters occurring within the Nations were dealt with.

The Recipient agrees to coordinate two days of training for the MLTC Justice Team and Community Justice Coordinators. Training will focus on understanding client needs, improving client service and understanding the justice system and the role the justice staff play within it.

The Inuit Victims Services Program is a culturally sensitive and community-focused initiative that will support Inuit who are victims or survivors of crime, recognizing the historical and social challenges faced by Inuit.

This project will assist families attending Court or Circle processes; provide strong internal and external referrals to programs for victims and other supporting services based on the families needs; and increase skills and capacity of organization as well as providing information and connection between the community and clients to service providers.

The Indigenous Victims of Crime Program aims to provide a trauma-informed wrap-around service model for Indigenous victims in Simcoe County that will increase access to justice and provide a voice in a culturally safe manner to help victims and survivors navigate their healing journey. It will also allow for the expansion of relationships with justice stakeholders to provide effective education, training and advocacy to effect positive change for Indigenous victims of crime within the justice system.

The objective of the Indigenous Courtwork Program is to facilitate and enhance access to justice by assisting Indigenous Persons (adults and youth) charged with an offence under any federal or provincial statute, municipal by-law, or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system to obtain fair, just, equitable and culturally relevant treatment. These services include information on charges, court procedures, rights and responsibilities, bail, diversion, restorative justice and Indigenous community justice alternatives; support in accessing legal resources as well as appropriate community programming including wellness, trauma, housing, family and employment services; and, facilitating communication among court officials, accused persons, family members and communities to ensure understanding and collaboration

Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government Victim Service Program focus is to gain an understanding of the community vision for a victim services program, resulting in a community strategy that includes programs and services that are Indigenous led, culturally safe and victim centered.

Red River Métis Victim Support Navigator Program will provide access to culturally safe services, partnership building and reduction in harm while promoting victim-centered approaches, allowing victims and survivors to navigate the criminal justice system and access community resources.

The "Hiiye’yu Lelum Victim Services and Healing Program" is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving access to justice and strengthening the support system for victims of crime, particularly focusing on the vulnerable peoples experiencing violence including the 2SLGBTQI+ community, human-trafficking and those impacted by the missing and murdered Indigenous community members. This project aims to address the urgent need for better understanding, awareness, and action in response to the crisis of violence toward Indigenous peoples within the community and service area of the Cowichan Valley.

The ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS Justice Sector proposes to meet with Justice Canada weekly for a technical exercise to co-develop the First Nations components of the IJS.
