About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Giant Floor Map Program

The contribution supports the promotion and delivery of an educational program for youth (grades K to 12), consisting of developing five giant floor maps and ten smaller versions that will travel coast-to-coast between September 2023 and June 2026 in schools and at Parks Canada administered sites. The maps will present the Parks Canada network of protected places with an emphasis on geography, conservation, environmental and cultural protection stories.

Resilience and Enhanced Adaptability to Disasters in the Caribbean

Project activities include: (1) providing technical assistance to national governments in areas that will support the strengthening of social protection and disaster response systems, such as identification and registration, vulnerability analyses, mapping, information management and data analysis, digitalization, and predictions and assessments of the impact of shocks; (2) providing top-ups to increase national insurance coverage made available by CCRIF-SPC, to enable the equivalent portion of payments received following a disaster to be transferred directly through social protection systems to those most vulnerable and in need of assistance; (3) identifying and developing mechanisms for anticipatory action financing to enable the disbursement of funds to the most vulnerable to aid their preparedness in advance of a predictable event (e.g. hurricane); (4) supporting continued progress on establishing and operationalizing the Regional Logistics Hub and Centre of Excellence in coordination with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and other partners; and (5) operationalizing the Centre of Excellence training facility and delivering training for disaster response personnel and logisticians.

Nature-based climate adaptation in the Guinean forests of West Africa

Implemented in Ghana, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire, the project takes a systems approach to mitigate key climate challenges through interventions that plan for, pilot and scale Nature-based Solutions for climate adaptation that contribute to enhanced biodiversity and gender equality.
Project activities include: (1) completing, analysing and sharing genetic and environmental DNA (eDNA) based biodiversity assessments; (2) selecting and distributing multipurpose tree species that support gender-responsive climate adaptation and biodiversity; and (3) improving capacity of local businesses, women’s organizations and cooperatives, to deploy more sustainable gender responsive livelihoods models implemented for Nature-based Solutions with biodiversity benefits.
The consortium formed by World University Services Canada (WUSC) and the Centre d’étude et de coopération internationale (CECI) is responsible for the implementation of the project, with the collaboration of key partners such as ABANTU for Development, International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and ICRAF-CIFOR.
