In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The Global Program for the Blue Economy (PROBLUE) aims to help developing countries build their coastal economies while ensuring the protection of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of coastal resources. This project is a World Bank-managed, multi-donor trust fund that aims to achieve integrated and sustainable economic development in healthy and productive oceans. The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs, and ocean ecosystem health. Project activities include: (1) managing fisheries and aquaculture; (2) tackling marine pollution, including plastics; (3) developing sustainable key oceanic sectors such as tourism, maritime transport, and offshore renewable energy; and (4) building the capacity of local governments to manage their marine and coastal resources in an integrated fashion to deliver more long-lasting benefits to countries and communities.

Key stakeholders participating in this project include political party leaders, government officials, election management officials, the security sector, judicial sector, and religious and civil society leaders, including women.

The Review of the CARICOM Regional Institutions project, implemented by the Caribbean Community Secretariat, will provide CARICOM with an evidenced based analysis of the institutions which will outline measures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of 17 CARICOM regional institutions with a view to effectively rationalize their functions, funding and structures to better provide equitable services to member states. The Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation has established the Thaidene Nëné Protected Areas, in partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada. The Thaidene Nene Protected Areas includes a National Park Reserve, a Territorial Protected Area and will include a Conservation Area that will contribute a total of 2,630,000 ha in new, permanently protected areas.

The Government of the Northwest Territories is working towards establishing Dinàgà Wek'èhodì as a territorial protected area designated under the Northwest Terrritories Protected Areas Act in partnership with the Tłı̨chǫ Government the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, the Northwest Territory Métis Nation, the North Slave Métis Alliance and the Wek'èezhìi- Renewable Resources Board.
