Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Supporting Gender Mainstreaming in Government of Jordan's Systems

Agreement Number:

7418822 P007370001 P007370002

Duration: from Mar 18, 2020 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

P007370001: Working through the Government of Jordan (GoJ), this project builds the resilience of vulnerable women, including refugees, through three complementary pillars. Project activities include: (1) providing livelihoods opportunities such as cash-for-work that graduates into sustainable employment opportunities, including job placements, entrepreneurship opportunities, or work permit applications; (2) providing education opportunities based on labour market needs, including leadership and civic engagement skills development; and (3) contributing to gender-based violence prevention, protection and awareness-raising services. The 22 Oasis Centres across Jordan, which have evolved into multi-sectoral service delivery, support vulnerable women in camps and host communities. They focus on resilience and empowerment for women and girls while also engaging men and boys in dialogue and mobilization for gender and social equality.
P007370002: The overall goal of this initiative is to strengthen the Government of Jordan's systems to mainstream gender in its policies and programs to better respond to the needs of women refugees and vulnerable Jordanian women and empower them to become more resilient. This would be done through gender mainstreaming in national planning and programs, as well as in local planning and decision-making processes.

This initiative would also support the Ministry of Social Development for the implementation of its recently approved strategy, and set up programs for women's economic empowerment, resilience, protection, and leadership, using the UN Women-created Oasis Centre model. The Oasis model also directly addresses key barriers and enabling factors that affect women’s engagement in livelihoods opportunities.
