About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

This project enhances women’s economic well-being in the agribusiness sector in two governorates of Upper Egypt. It focuses on advancing women’s economic empowerment by establishing women-led agribusinesses and partnerships with private sector companies. It aims to improve work environments for women and gender-responsiveness of the Government of Egypt’s labour policies and regulations. Project activities include: (1) increasing access to growth-oriented and environmentally sustainable agribusiness opportunities for women entrepreneurs; (2) providing business management, technical and entrepreneurial training and health services to beneficiaries; (3) engaging with local leaders and influences to challenge stereotypes related to gender equality; (4) supporting new and existing enterprises and strengthening women’s entrepreneurship networks; (5) working with local companies to adopt gender-responsive policies and workplace models in their operations; and (6) increasing the capacity of public institutions to mainstream gender into national policies and strategies that address barriers to women’s access and control over economic benefits, particularly those related to agribusiness. This project expects to benefit 6500 direct beneficiaries, 342 intermediaries, and 22,225 (10,898 women and 11,327 men) indirect beneficiaries.

Empowering Women Through the Development of Forestry Cooperatives in Morocco

The project aims to improve the living conditions of women and men in rural communities who are members of forestry cooperatives in the Middle Atlas and the Eastern Plateau of Morocco. The project targets women members of rosemary and cedar cooperatives, in particular.

The project aims to improve the well-being of 10,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries belonging to vulnerable rural communities, members of ten forestry cooperatives. The project aims to improve the performance of forestry cooperatives to create and sustain decent jobs, including at least 2,000 jobs for women, by supporting sustainable management and processing of rosemary and cedar. Furthermore, the project supports these cooperatives in the diversification of their economic activities and in the creation and improvement of sustainable services that meet the differentiated needs of their members.

Project activities include: (1) rolling-out an awareness program for the beneficiaries on the importance and benefits of egalitarian relationships within the household; (2) offering a field-school training program aimed particularly at women on sustainable management operations for cedar and rosemary; (3) providng a training program to elected officials and managers on the equal participation of women in cooperatives; (4) providing support and advice to elected officials on the development of business plans and cooperative financing; and (5) carrying out technical and economic analyzes with the Department of Water and Forests of Morocco on the commercial potential of forestry cooperatives.

Building a Culture of Peaceful Pluralism in Myanmar and Sri Lanka, Phase II

This project aims to tackle rising hate speech and disinformation that is fueling ethnic and religious extremism, violence, and conflict in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Building on Phase I of this project, which works to establish a cross-border cohort of journalists and activists to respond and report on peaceful pluralism issues, Phase II aims to solidify gains achieved, and further expand participant skills, collaboration, and networking in both countries. Project activities include: (1) furthering the skills of women that were trained on peaceful pluralism issues in Phase I, now as mentors; (2) providing training to a core cadre of women journalists and activists on digital safety and security to respond to contextual and gender challenges; (3) organizing cross-culture media exchanges and supporting technical story productions; (4) building the capacity of youth in peaceful pluralism, media, and civil society; and (5) expanding national and regional networks by providing an open space to discuss religious and ethnic diversity issues between media, women journalists, activists and other stakeholders.

Building cyber capacity in ASEAN through simulation exercises

The project also focuses on consolidating peacebuilding gains in light of the drawdown of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur.
In Haiti, this project aims to support the transition from the recently concluded United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti to a UN Special Political Mission, with a greater focus on long-term peacebuilding. The project also works to provide technical support to national institutions to help prevent electoral violence against women, strengthen access to justice, support community-violence reduction initiatives, and implement disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programs.

P006902001 & P006902002: This project aims to improve the realization of the right to safe, gender-responsive, quality learning for girls between the ages of 5 and 18, affected by the crisis and conflict in the Colombia-Venezuela border. This project responds to two major humanitarian crises facing Colombia, the migratory crisis caused by the arrival of millions of Venezuelan mixed migrants; and the internal armed conflict, which has existed for over 50 years and resulted in more than 8 million internally displaced people.

Project activities include: (1) promoting community social and behaviour change communication and enrolment campaigns to promote girl’s education; (2) supporting community clubs and safe spaces where out-of-school girls can build positive social life skills and facilitate a transition to education institutions; (3) providing training to girls on socio-emotional and like skills, gender equality, gender-based violence (GBV), participation and educational rights; (4) distributing essential resources needed to access education, such as menstrual hygiene management kits; (5) mapping referral routes to child protection and adolescent sexual and reproductive health services; (6) providing training to teachers on gender-responsive teaching and learning strategies; and (7) developing local and national public awareness campaigns to address xenophobia and discrimination.

The project’s primary beneficiaries are crisis-affected girls between the ages of 5 and 18, in and out-of-school, and at risk of not realizing their right to education and learning.

This project expects to reach 30,403 direct beneficiaries, including 1,022 women, 746 men, and 28,635 children between the ages of 5 and 18 (of which 15,755 are girls).
