By using a similar imaging technique and cooling the telescope, the Space Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) will be 100 times more sensitive than Herschel, able to detect objects 10 times further away, and capable of exploring a greater volume of the universe.

This project will develop a data processing framework and software to calibrate the 2,400 sensors that will be used to capture the large amounts of data and high-resolution images.

The technique will build on data from computer thermal simulation models, developed during spacecraft development to predict on-orbit temperatures, which are used to ensure that the spacecraft components will operate within an acceptable temperature range during all phases of the mission.

The project aims to advance economic growth in the agriculture sector by supporting the development of businesses and increasing income generating opportunities for women and youth in Bauchi State.

The project seeks to engage government and private sector stakeholders to provide reliable services that support entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises. By improving economic conditions for women and youth aged 18 to 35, the project also aims to reduce the economic causes of child, early marriage.

Project activities include: (1) designing and deploying more accessible and adapted financial services for small scale businesses and entrepreneurs, with a particular focus on women and youth; (2) providing support to small scale businesses to address shared value chain productivity constraints; and (3) developing culturally appropriate awareness campaigns to address early marriage.

The project is expected to directly benefit 1,000 small scale businesses and 15,000 entrepreneurs with a focus on rice and sesame value chains for their high growth potential.

Consistent with the terms of the GAC matching fund mechanism, the Government of Canada is matching the eligible donations made by individuals to the Humanitarian Coalition and its members, which reached the maximum announced matching amount of $2 million.
Through this project, GAC is transferring the matching funds to the Humanitarian Coalition, which in turn allocates the funds amongst its members based on criteria such as their capacity and presence in the affected regions.

The project aims to empower women and girls for the advancement of gender equality in their communities.

The project addresses key gender equality issues identified as barriers to the empowerment of women and girls and resulting in women being largely under-represented in leadership roles in organizations – of government, civil society and the private sector. To address this gap, the project aims to mobilize women and support them with enhanced knowledge skills and capacity to assume leadership roles at the community level, create opportunities for collaboration with broader movements and provide them with effective tools to influence duty bearers. Men and boys are also engaged in efforts to shift attitudes, behaviours and practices in order to advance gender equality at all levels.
The project is implemented in Burkina Faso, Haiti, Kenya, Senegal, and Tanzania, as well as regionally in Anglophone and Francophone Africa, and globally through Equitas’ in-Canada annual International Human Rights Training Program involving participants from developing countries of all continents. Equitas also uses its online community as a key tool to share knowledge, lessons learned and best practices, promoting exchanges and collaboration amongst its alumni worldwide and in each region, as well as providing online training programs, all with a particular focus on advancing gender equality.

This project involves the installation of proven biomass heating or combined heat and power technology to displace fossil fuel use and reduce GHG emissions in a Canadian rural or remote community.

The FCRP works to support internationally-trained individuals (ITIs) in fully participating in the labour market and Canadian society. The program provides strategic financial support to provincial and territorial partners and stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, Sector Councils and post-secondary educational institutions, to develop systems and processes for assessing and recognizing foreign qualifications in targeted occupations and sectors.The program also provides client focused support to ITI’s through recipient organizations that deliver support services and guarantee loans issued by financial institutions to ITIs.

Community Justice and Policing will hold three regional capacity-building workshops throughout the NWT. The workshops will bring trauma informed practice and provide facilitator training for Community Justice Coordinators and Committee Members with a focus on improved victim engagement and interviewing skills.

Through the application of national and local priorities, the CSJ program seeks to provide youth who face barriers to employment with access to work opportunities. Funded employers must demonstrate that they are providing quality work experiences for youth that provide opportunities to develop and improve their skills. The CSJ program is delivered by the Department of ESD.

These grants are intended to foster the development of new research partnerships by supporting short-term research and development projects aimed at addressing a company-specific problem; that is, a problem related to the company’s core competencies or activities.
