The Inuit Art Foundation is working to increase community access to Inuit artistic heritage. This project will enable the organization to digitally preserve images and documentation of Inuit art, artists, communities, gatherings and cultural history, and make them accessible to the public, and in particular, to the Inuit themselves.

The Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia will complete the processing, arrangement, description, and selected digitization of the Canadian Jewish Congress – Pacific Region fonds (CJC-PR). Two thirds of this fonds has already been processed with the support of a Young Canada Works grant. This final phase involves processing materials donated to the collection in 2018 by the successor of the Canadian Jewish Congress. Archival activities include processing the recently donated materials, creating a finding aid, and making this collection accessible to research requests from around the world, including organizations from Jewish and non-Jewish communities, other religious organizations, social welfare groups, and politicians. The materials are in generally good condition. However, there is a need to separate photographs and artifacts from paper documents and provide for appropriate storage in acid-free folders and boxes made to a professional standard.

This project focuses on the needs of Inuinnait—a distinct regional group of Inuit living in the Central Canadian Arctic.

This organization holds more than 28,000 photographic images dating back to the end of the nineteenth century. To prioritize work required, the organization will identify and preserve the most publicly significant of these photos: images from six communities that were once home to an Indian Residential School (IRS). The organization will then sort these images by IRS community, digitize them and restore where required, and create accompanying bilingual finding aids for each community. The organization will then upload the images to a website and make them available to the public.

The project aims to digitize sound recordings that document the Belgian, Francophone and Métis presence in Western Canada and in particular in Manitoba. The project will provide digitization, entry of essential metadata and verification of descriptions for 360 cassettes and 300 soundtracks. This project will protect records at risk of serious deterioration and improve access to historical research materials in Western Canada.

The OJA is not currently equipped to preserve digital records in perpetuity. This project will enable the organization to build a robust digital preservation system to ensure its digital records of enduring value remain accessible well in the future.

In this project, the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies (WMCR) will digitize 168 scrapbooks from 48 fonds, with over 6,000 pages that represent the Canadian Rocky Mountain community from upper and middle-income families between the 1800s and the 1970s.

In this project, Western Front Media Archive will address a need for better long-term preservation of digital assets representing important figures and events in Canadian independent art production.
