About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

This project aims to improve educational achievement among Indigenous students, especially girls in Alta Verapaz and Quiche departments of Guatemala. Project activities include: 1) offering scholarships, leadership and life skills trainings to Indigenous youth mentors; 2) preparing e-learning resources accessible for students and providing training to teachers and young mentors to integrate them into learning; and 3) providing gender equality workshops and training to teachers, parents, community leaders and students. The project will engage 5584 direct beneficiaries, including at least 5305 indigenous students, primarily female, along with 6707 indirect beneficiaries in partner school communities, for a total of 12 291 beneficiaries. At least 95% of all beneficiaries will be indigenous and at least 60% will be female.

Strengthening climate resilience, saving endangered species and improving livelihoods in Belize

This project seeks to strengthen the local capacity of the youth population and the climate resilience of the community of Gales Point Village in Belize. This is a coastal area home to many species of endangered animals, which is also vulnerable to sea level rise and climate disasters like Hurricane Lisa in 2022. Project activities include : (1) expanding seagrass monitoring and mangrove restoration efforts to address biodiversity loss; (2) targeting households that utilize outdoor fire hearths to participate in a regenerative agroforestry project to aid in reforestation, carbon sequestration, and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities in Gales Point Village; (3) collecting data on endangered manatees in the sanctuary through a health assessment and satellite-tagging program to protect biodiversity; and (4) enhancing climate change education locally.
