Grants and Contributions

Engage Grants (EGP) are designed to give innovative companies that operate from a Canadian base access to the unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities available at Canadian universities and colleges. These grants are intended to foster the development of new research partnerships by supporting short-term research and development projects aimed at addressing a company-specific problem; that is, a problem related to the company’s core competencies or activities. The simplified application and decision processes enable university and college researchers to quickly undertake new research collaborations that extend academic expertise to these problems. The mutually beneficial projects are expected to result in economic benefits to the company and to Canada and build impactful longer term collaborations between the applicant and the company.

Based on the use of online inspection technologies that emphasize machine-learning algorithms (Industry 4.0) on emerging applications, this project aims to deploy online quality control and assurance systems, reduce production costs and increase the productivity of laser-welded parts.

This will be accomplished in the following ways:
• Through partnership and joint management of distinctions based investments that will enhance and expand Indigenous ELCC, and support the transfer of ELCC to Indigenous organizations;
• Strengthening foundational supports for Indigenous ELCC through, for example, Indigenous led quality improvement projects; and
• Adapting and improving existing federal programs to be more flexible, adaptable and horizontal across federal departments as a first step prior to transferring control, so that programs cohesively support the goals of the Framework including supporting self determination.

This will be accomplished in the following ways:

A major challenge faced by automotive manufacturers in the highly evolving Electric Vehicle market, is the construction, selling/financing and the life management of high capacity and efficiency battery packs.

The battery pack is by far the most critical component of any EV; as it bears the highest cost and is responsible for the primary function of the vehicle. As a result, ensuring the quality and durability of the battery pack is of paramount importance to the vehicle engineers. Existing technologies for Washing (Remove manufacturing contaminants before final assembly) and leak testing (check for water tightness) are not capable of producing satisfactory results in the allowable cycle time, so new technologies are proposed.

The team will test the effectiveness of artificial gravity (AG) and its combination with bike ergometer exercise on several musculoskeletal endpoints compared to controls and previous AG and non AG countermeasures. Findings will lead to a deeper understanding of microgravity-induced musculoskeletal changes.
