The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

This 31-month project will address organizational capacity needs of the RC4R and promote collaborative knowledge generation and dissemination amongst the emerging national network of LGBTQ2 refugee civil society organizations in order to offer LGBTQ2 newcomers safety, care, and resources for resilience, as well as opportunities for livelihood and civic participation.

In Phase 1 of the project, organizational capacity building will be enhanced through the development of RC4R’s governance structure; expansion and formalization of its membership using a community of practice model; and, conducting needs assessments of regional hubs and the National network. Knowledge generation will be enhanced through a literature review, environmental scan, and focus groups, as well as the sharing of information via regional hubs and a national consultation in order to inform priority setting for community building and advocacy efforts.

Phase 2 of the project will focus on building capacity for leadership and participation by LGBTQ+ refugee newcomers in the advocacy, program development and knowledge mobilization work of RC4R. Each of the regional hubs will establish an advocacy advisory group comprised of people with lived expertise. Recognizing the need to support trans and gender diverse participation, RC4R will establish a trans gender diverse caucus within the community of practice, with regional and national convenings. Fostering community-based supports for LGBTQ+ refugee newcomers in recovery from persecution, RC4R will pilot a mental health capacity building and resource connecting project in the Greater Toronto Area and British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Facilitating knowledge exchange and mobilization by Francophone CSOs distributed across Canada to enhance their work with Francophone LGBTQ+ refugee newcomers, RC4R will seed a Francophone caucus with representatives from each region.

This 48-month project will enable Actua to develop innovative on- and offline programming that empowers girls and young women to critically assess online interactions and threats in ways that reduce cyber-violence and promote positive digital and community citizenship. Approaches and content will be tested to ensure that they are appropriate to a range of ages and youth populations, particularly those that are economically and socially marginalized. The project will then develop a plan to scale-up learnings for inclusion in a variety of existing Actua programs and will share lessons with influential stakeholders through thought leadership activities.

The supplementary funds will be used to extend the on- and offline programming to various age groups; develop specialized content for girls of intersecting identities and for youth in marginalized or at-risk communities and include additional pilot sites.

Trauma-Informed Psychological Treatment and Adjunct Therapies for Veterans and their families.

The Sentinelles program aims to implement measures and services to promote the economic and social autonomy of veterans in crisis, to break the cycle of homelessness and to encourage social reintegration.

To open a new Drop-In and Support in Ottawa for homeless and at-risk Veterans, their families, and friends, offering community and individual support.

The Women Warriors' Healing Garden will offer therapy programs, foster partnerships and develop networks with other community organizations about the mental health needs and challenges of Canada's Veterans who are also members of minority groups. A particular focus will be on building knowledge and understanding of the social issues and challenges facing the female and LGBTQ2S+ Veteran population.

This 19-month project will honour the lives and legacies of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and LGBTQ2S individuals and increase awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and LGBTQ2S individuals. Project activities will include: working in collaboration with families affected to create a community monument that will be placed in the three Northern Tutchone communities as well as the coordination of a community feast and un-veiling ceremony.

This 60-month project will build on work previously undertaken by ONWA in 1989 and 2015, using a community development model to find strategies to help communities in their efforts to combat violence and system discrimination. The project will engage with Indigenous women, using a trauma-based care approach and cultural practices to develop recommendations for both organizational and system-wide approaches and mechanisms to respond to the needs of Indigenous women survivors of violence.
