Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Project Grant - PA: Sex, Gender & Health Research - Integration & Innovation

Agreement Number:

147576

Duration: from Apr 1, 2019 to Mar 31, 2020
Description:

Integration: Applications that clearly articulate how sex and/or gender will be integrated into research designs and approaches (e.g., designs that test hypotheses related to the effects of sex and/or gender; studies focused on similarities and differences within or between groups of women, girls, men, boys or gender-diverse people, studies that explicitly use male and/or female animal/tissue or cell models to explore sex-based mechanisms).
Innovation: Applications that foster innovative approaches to sex, gender and health research (e.g., applications that develop, assess and/or enhance theories and conceptual frameworks that underpin research or that contribute to methods and measurement tools).
In determining relevancy, IGH considers whether the application is relevant to the mission of IGH and whether the proposal has a substantive focus on sex and/or gender (i.e., sex and/or gender are an integral aspect of the applicant's research question(s) and research design). In determining whether a proposal has a substantive focus, IGH considers:

Does the proposed research focus on groups or populations with an explicit emphasis on how sex and/or gender affect outcomes? In studies that focus only on women/females or men/males, does the proposed research provide an explicit rationale for this approach?
Does the proposed research include an explanation of how sex and/or gender are being conceptualized and applied in the study?
