With GAC’s support, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is helping to assist up to 15,000 conflict-affected people in the North-West and South-West. Project activities include: (1) providing adequate shelter and essential basic items to 2,500 vulnerable households; (2) distributing dignity kits for women and girls, which contain items required to maintain feminine hygiene, dignity and respect in their daily lives, benefiting up to 3,000 women and girls; (3) constructing or rehabilitating household emergency latrines, benefiting up to 2,000 people; and (4) building the capacity of local NGOs to address gender and protection, and their understanding of humanitarian and “Do No Harm” principles.

With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC’s humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief, and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. Project activities include: (1) providing medical care, access to water and sanitation facilities, food assistance and livelihoods support; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise to strengthen their capacity in areas such as promoting international humanitarian law, restoring family links, and delivering relief in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees.

P006454001 & P006454002: One of the biggest challenges to the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance is the ability to rapidly deploy experienced humanitarian experts in the aftermath of a disaster. To address this challenge, and to enhance the timeliness, reliability and effectiveness of international humanitarian responses to crises, CANADEM maintains a roster of highly qualified disaster relief and humanitarian experts. These experts can be deployed for short term missions in response to sudden onset emergencies, at the request of United Nations humanitarian agencies.

With GAC's support, CANADEM is managing the deployment of humanitarian experts in response to sudden onset crises abroad. Activities focus on: (1) managing and expanding the humanitarian experts roster, including through ongoing recruitment and skills development of humanitarian experts; and (2) facilitating the short-term deployment of humanitarian experts to UN humanitarian agencies following sudden onset crises, including in the areas of needs assessment and coordination, child protection, water and sanitation, health and nutrition, and information management.

Through humanitarian partners providing assistance, the project aims to mainstream gender equality in the delivery of humanitarian action and empower women and girls in the context of the humanitarian response to the Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The project also seeks to promote changes in attitudes and behaviours to support Rohingya women and girls.

The project supports the nationally driven peace process in Mozambique through a basket fund managed by the Swiss Government. The main activities focus on demobilization, disarmament and reintegration (DDR) in selected provinces.

The project aims to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict between the Frente de Libertaçao de Moçambique (FRELIMO) and the Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (RENAMO), thus contributing to an enabling environment for inclusive development and sustainable poverty reduction.

This project seeks to support the development of more robust humanitarian financial data in order to effectively improve the sufficiency and efficiency of assistance provided by humanitarian organizations in the context of the Syria Crisis. This project represents the first phase of a two-phase project. This project focuses on the Syria Crisis, and aims to establish an evidence base on the types, forms, and amounts spent of predictable and flexible humanitarian funding, and further develop an understanding on the needs of, and resources for, vulnerable populations, especially women and girls in the context of the Syria Crisis.

Project activities include: (1) developing analyses to further better understand the issues with using and collecting data on multi-year funding; (2) carrying out additional analyses to provide better data on crisis-affected populations separated by gender and age; and (3) mapping resources dedicated to addressing gender-based violence programs, focusing on the Syria Crisis.

ECW supports activities such as the provision of learning materials and psychosocial support, school and classroom equipment and infrastructure, teacher training and support as well as non-formal education programs. ECW aims to reach 8 million affected children and youth by 2021, including those with disabilities, improving their learning outcomes and enhancing their socio-emotional well-being and employability.

The project aims to help ensure that Venezuelan migrant children and adolescents, particularly girls and adolescent girls, live free from violence and discrimination, and exercise their rights to protection, education and health in strengthened host communities in Peru. The project works with the Peruvian ministries of Education, of Health, and of Women and Vulnerable Populations, as well as with civil society organizations to promote gender-sensitive and inclusive education, and health and protection services. The project advocates for, and assists in updating regulatory frameworks and other instruments to grant migrants access to services. It seeks to empower adolescent girls to make them aware of their rights, and foster egalitarian relations between girls and boys. The project works to generate gender-disaggregated data and rapid assessments to determine the immediate needs and priorities of Venezuelan children and adolescents.

P006617001: The project seeks to address gender inequality, and the prevention and response to gender-based violence in the humanitarian response to the Rohingya refugee crisis, through three objectives: (1) advance gender equality in humanitarian response programming; (2) support Canada’s leadership role in the Call to Action on Protection from Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies, a multi-stakeholder initiative that works to transform the way gender-based violence is addressed in humanitarian emergencies; and (3) protect and empower displaced adolescent girls living in Cox’s Bazar.

Project activities for the Rohingya refugee crisis response include: (1) conducting, drafting and promoting a gender operational review of the Rohingya response; (2) generating girl-centered evidence; and (3) providing a comprehensive appreciation of attitudes and perceptions about adolescent girls living in Cox’s Bazar.

P006617002: The project seeks to address gender inequality, and the prevention and response to gender-based violence in responses to humanitarian crisis throughout the world, through three objectives: (1) advance gender equality in humanitarian response programming; (2) support Canada’s leadership role on the Call to Action on Protection from Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies, a multi-stakeholder initiative that works to transform the way gender-based violence is addressed in humanitarian emergencies; and (3) protect and empower displaced adolescent girls.

Project activities include: (1) developing a gender analysis tool and position paper to promote a more progressive understanding of gender, diversity and gender equality in humanitarian settings; (2) developing gender equality indicators; (3) convening thought-leaders, experts and stakeholders from humanitarian, development, human rights, academia and the private sector; (4) documenting good practices on successfully integrating gender equality practices throughout project cycles; (5) providing technical assistance to key international and local actors to strengthen gender equality into their programs; (6) analyzing the current Call to Action Road Map to shape the next phase of the initiative; (7) developing a comprehensive strategy on Call to Action implementation at country level with a focus on strengthening engagement of national and women’s organizations; (8) conducting research on how conflict and displacement impact child marriage; and (9) piloting family strengthening and violence prevention with sibling interventions.

It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations.

Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) supplementary feeding for children under five years of age as well as pregnant and lactating women; (3) emergency school feeding programs; (4) vouchers and cash transfers for food; and (5) food for work.
