The purpose of this CanExport Associations contribution agreement is to support organizations and ultimately aims to increase the competitiveness of Canadian companies, in the international marketplace, on a sectoral basis, thereby contributing to Canadian prosperity and the growth of the Canadian economy. This financial support enables the recipient to undertake new or expanded international business development promotion activities, in a given sector, for the benefit of its entire industry (member and non-member firms).

The purpose of this CanExport - Innovation (CXI) grant agreement is to support organizations and to build on targeted relationships between Canadian companies/researchers and key organizations in other countries to allow them to proceed with formal discussions to initiate collaboration(s) on future international R&D initiatives that could lead to commercialization of Canadian technologies.

March 2019 - Decades of political instability have left Somalia facing a complex and protracted humanitarian crises with an estimated 4.2 million Somalis (35 percent of the population) expected to require humanitarian assistance in 2019. Some 2.6 million people have been forced from their homes, with little or no access to the basic services. Acute malnutrition rates remain near or above emergency thresholds, particularly among displaced populations. Violence due to terrorist threats and multiple conflicts has made access a challenge in many regions, hampering the ability of humanitarian workers to reach those in need.

With the support of GAC and other donors to the Somalia Humanitarian Fund, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is providing funding to United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations to respond to newly emerging crises and shifting/deteriorating humanitarian situations. Project activities include: (1) supporting life-saving activities, such as shelter, healthcare and protection, by filling critical funding gaps; (2) promoting needs-based assistance in accordance with humanitarian principles; (3) strengthening the coordination of humanitarian assistance; (4) improving the relevance and coherence of humanitarian response by strategically funding priorities as identified under the Humanitarian Response Plan; and (5) expanding the delivery of humanitarian assistance in hard-to-reach areas of the country by partnering with local and international non-governmental organizations.

With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger (ACF) is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of around 41,000 conflict-displaced people and host communities in the remote and hard to access Bakool region of Somalia. This project focuses on helping provide support to health facilities, treatment for acute malnutrition, rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities, and cash to help meet basic needs. Project activities include: (1) training health workers on management of childhood illnesses; (2) providing of prenatal consultations to pregnant women and postnatal consultations to lactating women; (3) providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene supplies to people in vulnerable communities, including internally-displaced people; and (4) constructing emergency latrines that meet the protective needs and privacy of women and girls.

March 2019 - A 10th outbreak of the Ebola virus disease was declared in North Kivu and Ituri provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on August 1, 2018. North Kivu and Ituri are among the most populated provinces in the DRC. The provinces have been experiencing intense insecurity and a worsening humanitarian crisis, with limited access and over one million internally displaced people. The continuous movement of refugees to neighbouring countries, including Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania, represents a risk of spreading the outbreak to other provinces and neighbouring countries.

With GAC’s support, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is helping to meet the immediate needs of persons infected by or at risk of contracting Ebola in the affected health zones. The IFRC has the operational expertise for programmatic response, particularly in community engagement and accountability, psychosocial support, surveillance, and National Society Development. Project activities include: (1) conducting safe and dignified burials; (2) providing psychosocial support to Ebola patients and their families; (3) advocacy and community outreach on Ebola prevention, detection and control; and (4) advocating for humanitarian access to affected and at-risk communities.

Strengthen the responsiveness to immediate recovery needs for a decent life for women affected by Cyclone Idai in Sofala province.

Contribution as part of the Participant Funding Program to the Conseil de la Nation huronne-wendat to assist in preparing for and engaging in Indigenous consultation activities and public participation opportunities associated with the environmental assessment process for the Port of Quebec Deep-Water Multipurpose Wharf Project - Beauport 2020.
