Grants and Contributions

The objectives of the Program are to; support the development and utilization of effective approaches to address social issues and challenges;
develop, exchange and apply knowledge, tools and resources that address social needs of individuals, families and communities; foster partnerships and networks to address existing and emerging social issues; recognize and support the ability of not-for-profit organizations to identify and address social development priorities; and, recognize and promote community engagement initiatives (e.g. volunteerism, corporate social responsibility, innovation, partnerships, coalitions) that mobilize community assets and develop capacities and resources for action.

The Worker Retention Grant provides funding to employers with an approved and implemented Work-Sharing agreement. Employers can use this funding to provide a weekly income top-up to workers who have reduced hours and are taking training while receiving Work-Sharing Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. The WRG is designed to increase uptake of training for workers while on WS to improve resiliency during the adjustment period by, helping workers maintain employment while receiving a larger proportion of total income through the grant.

The City of Montreal’s project involves conducting a feasibility study to identify the most significant issues and the preferred development scenarios. Once a scenario is selected, construction work will involve building a bike path as part of the Réseau Express Vélo (REV). This bike path will extend 2.6 km along Henri-Bourassa Boulevard between Saint-Firmin Street and Récollets Avenue in Montreal.

The City of Montreal's project includes both planning and capital works.

The planning work consists of conducting a feasibility study to determine the most important issues and the preferred development scenarios. Once a scenario has been selected, an estimate of the costs of Class D works will be carried out.

The capital work consists of constructing a bicycle path for the Réseau Express Vélo (REV). This bicycle path will extend over a length of 2.3 km on Henri-Bourassa between Marcelin Wilson Ave and Lajeuness Street in Montreal.

The construction work involves creating a protected one-way bike lane on both sides of the street. This bike lane will extend over a length of 2.2 km on Hochelaga Street between Du Havre Street and Desjardins Avenue.

Ampere is undertaking a green and inclusive retrofit to create a community STEAM space in Lindsay, Ontario. Currently, this 13,248 sq.ft. facility is largely inaccessible with poor energy efficiency. Retrofits will help create a safe, energy efficient, and inclusive multi-purpose learning and activity space. Our ambitious goals include:
- Green measures (target 65% energy savings, -90% in annual GHG emissions): Adding insulation and curtain walls, upgrading windows and exterior doors, upgrading HVAC, installing LED lighting.
- Accessibility measures (exceeding the highest accessibility standards): Installing exterior/interior ramps, non-slip flooring, elevator, and accessible doors.

This project will primarily benefit underserved/high needs groups in rural Ontario, including people experiencing poverty, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, newcomers, and seniors.

The Prince County Innovation & Learning Centre in Summerside will support the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Family Medicine Residency program. A multifaceted satellite centre in Summerside, adjacent to Prince County Hospital, would complement and support the programs developed for UPEI medical school residents. Residents in these programs would gain experience working in a smaller, community-focused setting, which can improve their skills in delivering personalized care. Additionally, the presence of medical residents could help alleviate the burden on local healthcare professionals, enhance the quality of care, and foster a more robust healthcare system in the region. As residents often stay in the area where they train, this could also contribute to long-term retention of medical professionals in PEI, benefiting the community with consistent and dedicated healthcare services. The Prince County Innovation & Learning Centre envisions a future where simulation is seamlessly integrated into the world of healthcare.

A retrofit of an Indigenous education facility in Six Nations of the Grand River, ON that will offer programming to revitalize and sustain six endangered Ogwehoweh languages and the cultural practices of Six Nations of the Grand River territory. This project supports planned retrofits, upgrades, and repairs and with the goal of improving energy efficiency and environmental outcomes.

This project will engage a recent graduate engineer to develop and implement a structured quality assurance and reliability program to reduce unplanned downtime and ensure consistent performance of automated feather sexing machines prior to and after deployment.

The project is to support two internal staff members to address two main bottlenecks: a cultural localization gap and manual process inefficiency in sales and marketing functions across Nunavut's 25 communities. Those issues remain relevant, but Nunafab's current stage now requires a broader technical-commercial response that addresses a more critical commercialization bottleneck: the gap between product interest and buyer-ready adoption packages for northern housing and defense related applications.
