Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

A New High-Value Service: Establishment of Synthesis and Validation for Drug Discovery
916162
The proposed project will develop a new high-value service client; this involves establishing “synthesis and validation of hits” at 48Hour Discovery INC (48HD). The deliverable from achieving this objective is an extremely valuable investigational new drug (IND) enabling discovery pipeline. The pipeline consists of I) genetically-encoded library technology (BiGEL2) for the discovery of bicyclic ligands for cell-based targets, II) high throughput synthesis of selected discovered ligand, III) measurement of binding and specificity profile and IV) permeability assays. These scaffolds are stable and resilient to simulated gastrointestinal conditions and thus, the discovery platform will provide potentially oral and bioavailable therapeutics.

Germany ZIM - Quantum sensor based transient electromagnetics (QTEM)
917028
Germany ZIM Project with international partners Supracon AG, Jena Germany; Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT), Jena Germany.
The project aims to develop a novel helicopter-based system for transient electromagnetics (QTEM) with very high dipole moment (TX), the lowest noise (both enhance the signal-to-noise ratio, SNR) and the best bandwidth over competing systems to account for a significant share of the rapidly growing market in airborne electromagnetics for oil, gas and mineral exploration, hydrogeology and more.

Development of Instrumentation Control System for a Custom Vending Machine
917352
Our goal is to create a vending machine that provides 100% healthy fresh smoothies. Using the latest technology in the food packing business we are able to create our system without shipping and storing produce frozen. The method used also has no preservatives as well as a 2-year shelf life. Using this packing system we will add an ice machine and a blender to create the drinks. The entire system will be fully automated and be app controlled for both the transactions as well as the product selection.

Protein Ultrafiltration Investigation – Phase 1
917527
As Ultrafiltration (UF) is an effective processing method used to separate small and large molecules, Botaneco envisages to use UF to facilitate protein concentration and purification from oil seed feedstock that uses to make non-protein high value products at present. The main challenge with UF is membrane fouling (plugging) and resulting in a decrease in performance over time and replacement of membranes is required that adds to operating costs. As UF performance decreases over time, an oversized system is likely required to accommodate proposed flow rates, potentially larger capital investment than truly necessary. This project is understanding the factors in fouling, how to mitigate these factors, & what the costs are (operating & capital) of an UF system that would meet the requirements for a full-scale manufacturing facility.

Photoacoustic Remote Sensing (PARS) Microscopy for Pre-clinical and Clinical Applications
917711
There is a desperate need for a fast, non-contact, non-invasive, safe and accurate technique that can measure oxygen saturation, oxygen metabolic activity, and multilayered histology-like information. Quickly acquiring in-situ microscope images of disease morphology and oxygen metabolic activity can play a vital role in understanding, and better treating, several diseases including cancers and vision loss. To achieve this, Histological and Functional Photoacoustic Remote Sensing (HF-PARS) microscopy is being developed to provide a quick, easy-to-use, reliable, and high resolution non-contact photo-acoustic based microscopy. This can easily be incorporated into current patient care and improve diagnosis and treatment these diseases.
