This project aims to take advantage of phytochrome switching and the Emerson Effect by developing hybrid red/far-red LED lighting products to increase the growth efficiency and thus time to market of plants, flowers and vegetables. Limitations in incumbent LED grow lights, such as low output power and incorrect light spectrum distribution, will be targeted.

Eel Lake Oyster Farm Ltd. produces the re-known “Ruisseau Oyster” which is distributed to high end restaurants throughout Canada. These Eastern oysters are grown using floating bag technology in the clean waters of Salt Bay and Eel Lake in southwest Nova Scotia. Eel Lake intends to improve its productivity and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by incorporating a solar powered oyster grading system on a new floating barge unit.

This project will cover the design, engineering, fabrication and testing of a prototype separation system capable of processing a minimum of 50 yards per hour while removing more than 95% of contaminants.

Build-A-Thing is dual purpose tool that is a consumer facing web based platform which connects companies, and marketers to freelancers through productized creative services (“public view”) and services hub entities (agencies, in-house marketing team) through an “Expert View” to independently scope projects or access products while leveraging talent selection. With scoped hours validated through machine learning and rates determined by freelancers this tool automates an otherwise lengthy process plagued by inconsistency and unrealistic expectations. The tool is designed to deepen the relationship and strengthen working conditions between this new labour force and those desiring creative services.

Elkan Environmental Engineering (Business name of 1489344Alberta Ltd.) provides environmental engineering, consulting, and wastewater effluent design. This project will prototype a 10-20 m3 BEAST reactor with National Research Council (NRC) to test the functionality of proprietary electrode technology by determining output effluent quality versus hydraulic retention time, while monitoring the amount of methane generated from the process. Additional features will include a backwashing system design of an electrode washing system. Benefits to the customer include low cost, low energy, simple to operate system for small municipal wastewater systems, specifically in cold climates.

Designing and programming a concrete recipe and calibration app to more-effectively set up concrete machines. Current systems lack proper calibration techniques due ot the HMIs available int he field. By bringing the process to an app we are able to accurately prepare custom programs for each truck to reduce the amount of cement being mixed into concrete.

The project focuses on definition of a simple liquid colorimetric mixtures for determination of the acidity/basicity of liquid formulations. The Goal is development of an efficient pH ;indicator that can help agricultural operators with a sustainable, safe and cost-accessible evaluation of the acidity/basicity of liquid media which are utilized in crop treatments.

Creation of a system with an eye tracking device equipped with algorithms to perform searches in neuroscience and to simulate eye diseases.
